I would most likely be going to my mechanic when the time is right and see if we could do it together so I'm sure it would still cost me some money...

Hi Scott-

I can't remember right now how much it cost to do the swap....I'll dig out the paperwork over the weekend and try to figure it out for you. One thing I can tell you right now is that the cost is almost all fab. work and adapting things to fit with the new motor in place. No off the shelf parts.

Wouldn't you rather have a car that already had the work done??!!!! Hahaha....just kidding!!!

Thanks for looking into it.

I would want a car that already has the work done, but at the same time I wouldn't.

I feel at 17 it would be a great responsibility to take a cheap E30 coupe, not one of these heavy 4 doors that I love oh so much. I think it would be cool to buy a couple thousand dollar car that doesn't necessarily look the best, make it fast over time, then do the aesthetics last.

Also, I'm going to get the car, take out the rear interior and all and make it lighter while doing all the other work, I think it would be too weird to have stripped e28 that wasn't necessarily a track car.

I won't really have any money for another car until August, *See "Drugs and Alcohol" thread in General for more info* and this is a little out of my price range :/

Hi Scott-

Sorry it took a little while to get back to you...

Anyway...seems like there was around six grand in labor to fit the motor and tranny.

Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun with your project!!!!

-George

PS- I think I have some detailed pics (with dimensions) of the motor mounts....let me know if you want me to try to find them.

Does anybody know how I can hide my email addy and anonymously screw around with those tools??

Sorry my friend...interesting idea, but the main reason I'm selling this car is lack of room. Otherwise, it would still have a home!!

Thanks anyway...and good luck!!

Something has come up and I need some cash. Don't want to touch any investments to get it, so I'm not going to be as stubborn about waiting for someone to pay my price.

Price is now $14000

Hi George, Awesome car! I wish I had the cash to buy it. Sounds like the perfect classic BMW 4-door sports car.

I actually just signed onto MyE28 a couple days ago, because I'm in FL and looking for a sporty car to drive instead of my work van. I've been looking at 5spd 3rd gen ('92-'94) Nissan Maximas because I used to have one that was auto and I really liked it, but I've always had an eye for the classic 6-series E24 BMWs. I've just found an '86 E28 535i 5spd locally in good shape (white on beige) and if I got that instead of the Maxima it would put me in the direction of the 6-series, especially since I have a family w/ 3 kids. But I'm wondering if I should get the 535i or just stick with the Maxima I'm looking at and save up for a nice 635CSi or M6 later down the road when I can afford something nice. The 535i I'm looking at now is only $1500.

I ask your opinion because you have both the 535i and M635csi. I'm a bigger guy, at 6'2" and 210lbs, so the 535i seems a little cramped, especially side to side. What would you suggest? Thanks and nice to meet you.

6'4", 222#, and the E28 fits just fine, even on long hauls.
I prefer the comfort seats over the sports though.

Hi Mark-

I agree with 1st 5er...I'm a few inches shorter, but the same weight (which means I'm wider!!) and the 535 (with sport seats) was fine for me. It was my daily driver for several years and maybe 25,000 miles and it never felt tight. The rear seat probably has enough room for the three kids.

The rear seats in a six series are sculpted out and only fit two people...so no room for the third kid! Sorry!

Hope this helps a little!!

Get out!!! Car looks nice!

Damn, I totally spaced out....I thought that show was more towards the end of the summer.

Oh well, it's ok I guess.....I'm still so amped up that the Bruins won the Cup that there won't be too much that'll bother me for a long time to come!!!

I raced a lightly modified E36 M3 yesterday from a dig and a pull, about a 1/2 mile drag and the same from 3500 in 1st gear and I was extremely surprised with how well my iS kept up. All that I have currently is 3.73 gears. I fell behind by about 3 car lengths on each.
