You mean to tell me they still make magazines? Dayum.

Well they did at the time I posted that. Now, they don't. :/

You're welcome! I find myself thinking back to the position I was in at the time and whether I could have bought one or two, and I easily could have...just would have needed to sell my Bavaria and E21 I had at the time. My wife was driving our '85 535 6MT through that time, so that wouldn't have gone anywhere. I recall my thinking was always a comparison to my much modified Bavaria and just as much modified E21, so many of these cars I thought of as slower and poorer handling than what I already had unless I modified them also -- just like my test drive in 1987 of the E30 M3 and E28 M5 where I came away not so impressed like I expected I would be. Oh well, fun to dream a bit.

Here's a few more from Sept 1988 issue:

1980 M535, last 7 of VIN 4885780, white w/gray-beige interior, etc, garaged, 61k miles, excellent condition, $12,500.
1980 M535, last 7 of VIN 4145210, gray/gray, triple webers, Hartge head and headers, Schrick 292, new M535 engine 30k miles ago, must sell, $12,000

Thanks for posting those e12 M535i's as well. I don't think I know either of those cars and a quick scan of the BMWMregistry didn't list them either. The 780 vin sounds like an '81, not an '80 by production.

4885780 is not an E12 M535i. It's a 525, which would indicate that it very well was one of the prototype cars. All series production E12 M535i had VINs ending in 414****.

Back to the B7. I was poking around on the internet trying to find something and ran across this in a Google Image Search.

Is that from your painter? Seems like a lot of behind the scenes shots. You weren't aware that this video existed? Kind of creepy.

Edit: found some other 'restoration videos' from the same person. Neat to see but still creepy.

He just took all of the photos from the thread and put them in a jar, hit Ken Burns effect and then mowed his lawn. Or something.

Da fuq? I've watched that guy's videos before (of a Datsun Roadster build). I assumed Cheral Auto was the shop that did the work. Deceptive.

Was this car ever in MA? I'm pretty sure it was bought out from under me at the last minute in the 90s. 0083 sounds familiar.

To my knowledge yes, it was in MA. I have no idea how I found it but I found an old CCA chapter newsletter online with a photo of it driving across the lawn at I think Lars Anderson museum. No stripes, Zender rear skirt (Jon removed that and used it on an M5).

I can’t speak for whether or not the car was bought out from under you but you wouldn’t be the first to have a claim like that on this car. :|

It was at a dealer in Boston. I had an offer accepted on it and sold my M5. The Dealer called and said they had a higher offer and sold it. So I bought a 1991 535i. Then an E24 B7 turbo came up for sale! So I sold the 535i and bought the E24. Always preferred the E28's.

I cannot agree more...

I know how you feel now, Chris. And I can promise you, it is just a couple of weeks since I could add the Alpina-decals myself, remember?

Just have to ask...

Do you have new Alpina decals, or are the old ones going on?

I do have a BNIB B7Turbo-decal here, even though I have not decided if I ever will let it go (I have a dream of owning a totally restored E24 B7 turbo once in my lifetime, and I might wanna save it till then...)

Guys any source where to buy Alpina B7 Turbo badges?
