What did you do to your other car(s) today?
Saturday, replaced the cracked intake boot on the X5; another PITA job on that car. Is it really necessary to have the throttle body underneath the intake manifold? And couldn't anybody think of a better way to connect the idle control valve to the intake than that funky nipple that comes off the boot, and requires messing with yet another hose clamp that's tucked away up out of sight? Sheesh. What should have been a ten minute job took an hour & a half, what with taking off the all the other parts of the intake in front of that boot.

Then yesterday I picked up a nice set of five 16" e39 Style 33 wheels with good Continental tires for the e32. Ordered up some metal hubcentric rings for them; bye-bye ratty old Kuhmos! Maybe I'll finally get around to refinishing those BBSs.

Over the weekend I picked up a set of 16" Style 33 wheels with nearly new Continental tires on them. The set of metal hub-centric rings to fit them to the e32 arrived yesterday, so I mounted up the new shoes to the old girl last night, and took her for a drive. Dang, what a difference in ride from the wide BBSs and ratty old Kuhmos!
While I had the rear wheels off, I took some time to inspect the driveline to see if the vibration I was getting was the driveshaft u-joint alone, or if there might be some other culprit. Sure enough, found that the bolts on the inside of the left half-shaft were really loose. Tightened them up, and about 90% of the vibration was gone. I still get some under power in the lower gears, but it doesn't feel like anything is going to fly apart any more.

The front left brake on the e32 has been dragging a bit, so I got a set of remanufactured calipers and new brake hoses for it, and went to town on the job this morning. Didn't get very far into the job before I figured out that I should've picked up new pads too; the right side had lots of life left, but the left side was nearly spent (should've expected that. ) And while I was at it decided to roll with some new rotors as well.
It's sure nice putting things together with brand new parts.
Especially when the parts come with markings like this.
Luck of the draw I guess; I just asked for remanny-ed calipers for a 735i. They were only $55 each. Pretty much a no-brainer considering the rebuild kit was $25. The time I would take rebuilding one and the wounds I would get along the way are worth more than $30.
It's sure nice putting things together with brand new parts.

Did both front calipers have the markings? Re-shoe on the E430 Sport with GoodYear Eagle F1.
Much softer, less noise over the road and big water drains, think I'll like them.
I am shadow painting the grill to knock offf some of the bright, replacing the head lights with smoked reflector projector units and the rear tail light assy with smoked pieces as well.

Oh...I washed the E28 as well. Though I fear I may be getting anal....it gets washed or wiped down every day.
I also lost my bunch of keys all day. Ended up bolting the barns (there's 40 odd cars in there, incl 4 E28's, 4 E24's, 1 2002, one Alpina B3, ) shut with a huge torx bolt in case someone stole or picked the keys up.
Then found the keys where my wife had dropped her massive handbag on top of them after swearing she had not seen them either.

Took the e32 for a ~750 mile drive today. It did really well, with one exception: The ABS light has been popping up randomly since last weekend, and I haven't had much time to try & figure out what's going on. Of course, when the ABS light comes on, the cruise control won't work. I really like cruise control, and hate when it's not there. Oh, also, the backlight for the odometer/tripmeter display decided to go out somewhere in Nebraska.
Other than that, it rode and drove great, and the OBC said I was getting ~24 mpg.

Truck threw a P0101. Cleared code and it hasn't returned yet. Sounds like it's a wiring issue more than the sensor itself and I did see evidence of past problems. (electrical tape under the harness wrap right at the connector)
Ordered MAF just to have one handy. Who knows, maybe we can get the mileage up over 11.

This kinda sucks. I recently did the brakes on the Tundra, and during the job I found a lot of wear on the backing plate that wraps around the P-Brake drum on the rear rotor. I was thinking it was a corrosion/expansion thing. But no, apparently it's a bearing thing.

I'm under the driveline warranty (60K) but past the basic warranty. Bearings are supposed to be covered under the driveline warranty. We'll see.

I just got a new timing belt in the mail. Was getting myself all psyched up to do the job, then checked the date stamp on the one I had. 2011. It probably would have been fine, but I wanted to remove all doubt. I shouldn't have to do another timing belt until after I retire.
