Can this thread be hi-jacked? Not to interrupt,
but I'm drinking a Belgian Abbey Ale. 7% .750 L . Bottle is capped like a champagne bottle. Worked outside all day . Burned brush , mowed and tilled around the striving peony. Helped Marina, Fixed a pair of loppers . I was a hurting unit. After supper, I took a couple muscle relaxants for my cramps . Hey, if you're in poor health, you may as well enjoy the meds. I can still type pretty good, so I haven't gotten sloppy, yet. There is only 3/4 a glass left in the bottle. Man , there is nothing like the sound of a cork being pulled ! Thooomp

No, I didn't fight the law, at least not this time. But I was tearing out an old deck or hot tub platform or something. The rotten 2 X 12s were easy, the vertical 4X4s, pressure treated so they weren't rotten, sunk in plenty of concrete, weren't so easy. With a shovel, pick, 8# sledge and 20# digging bar I won the fight, but 92F, no shade and humid for Calif make for hot hard work. Humid for Cal of course being something on the order of 50%, but for a guy who loves the heat I got soaked.

But swinging that sledge at concrete to break it up I just had that song running thru my head.

Afffligem is the oldest abbey in Belgium. It was founded by the Benedictines in 1071. Judging from the ale , they were a happy lot. Between this and the Ommergang, sampler, I am thankful to my sons for a thoughtful gift.

^^ Speaking of libations, the pinot noir I made for The Vintage was bottled last night. If I ever sober up I'll let you know if it's any good! I can say it went in a wee bit cloudy but hopefully those gleeful oenologists will cut me a break.

Finally, I succumbed to the nagging of 3 lady doctors. I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. 4 hours, portal to portal. I shot the breeze with the techs and doctors. Meanwhile , in a constant flurry of activity Just like the kitchen I washed dishes in in high school on a Saturday night. I was prepped . IV and saline . started. I let the vein up to the nurse, she opted for the big sucker on my left hand. . What if I scream? What if I cry, instead.? She slips the needle in . I feel it , but it was good feeling. There is an art to this. And the lady was good. I used to dread needles to the extent that I would allow the dentist to drill my cavities without Novacain. After a few hospital stays, I realized ,and started to appreciate, good hands. Anyway, I was joking with with the anesthetist . Next thing I'm being wheeled away. ... I awoke and my first thought was: "enough already , when is this going to start ? " Dummass . I hadn't felt a thing.

The concoction that you prep with is freaking ghastly. The Dr prescribed this stuff that cost as much as a qt of good booze. It was gross. I had no trouble with drinking a qt of water whilst forcing it down. Besides, every clear liquid I drank , exited in less than 10 minutes.after reaching terminal velocity. Worst case of golly-wobbles I've ever had.

Speaking of chocolate, I stopped at Menard's for a couple of things, and they are clearing out a bunch of Easter candy. I was in need of a vitamin Ch* fix after lunch, and stumbled across boxes of Waddles near the checkout, priced at 50 cents for a three-pack;

Waddles: Milk Chocolate Egg with a Marshmallow Ducky Inside.
Fluffy yellow marshmallow ducks are hidden inside hollow milk chocolate eggs. The perfect Easter morning surprise!

I unwrapped one and cracked the egg open, and yes, there is a fluffy yellow ducky inside. No goo, thankfully. I felt a bit guilty about eating that thing, so I bit the head off first to keep it from looking at me. It was so wrong though because the head (and the rest of the body) was squishy & chewy, but the eyes... they went crunch when I bit down. Aren't the eyes supposed to be the squishy part?



Feeling more than a little disturbed after eating that thing. Did enjoy the chocolate though. In the future I think I'll stick with the unfertilized version that comes from Cadbury. No ducky, chick, bunny, lion or any other critter inside, just goo.
