Different approaches, like ELECTRIC MOTORS, right Charlie?cek wrote:Have you been happily married for 24 years? I like hearing other peoples perspectives. They inform my decisions. Sometimes they inspire me to take a different approach. It's data.
As someone else around here is known to say, happy wife, happy life. IOW, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.cek wrote:I also like knowing that others have strong POVs and I like knowing them. You hate M-Parallels. I think that's interesting and I'm intrigued as to why. I love them and your opinions haven't influenced me on them one iota.
And I've seen your threads where you asked for opinions too.
My wife, however? That's more than just data. I love her more than the color of an interior.
All this is sounding more & more like an interior decorating thread. I was all when the talk centered around engine choices, but now all I hear is Just do it in black, and enjoy it. /threadcek wrote:As I said before I do like the idea of Taurusrot given it was something quite a few arctic blue cars had from the factory and it looks great.vinceg101 wrote:I've made know my preference for interior color choice before (Tarusrot). Yes it's red, but it's a dark red, nothing like that awful lobster red you showed earlier (maybe Julie would come around to it).
Julie does like Taurus too. I'm noodling over whether I could do a houndstooth cloth+leather combo where I used Taurus as a base or highlight color. Anyone ever seen something like that?

Patience padwan. We'll be back to engine discussions soon, I'm sure.
You never replied regarding battery placement.

Until cek decides on the material for his interior and because he lives in the PNW, I calling him Sass-swatch for the rest of this thread.

I didn't realize that was an inquiry; from your comment it seemed like you were simply acknowledging and accepting the challenge of figuring it out.cek wrote:Patience padwan. We'll be back to engine discussions soon, I'm sure.

And you do realize I'm not an expert on the subject, yes?cek wrote:You make a well articulated, clear argument. I knew if I pushed your button you would.
It *would* be interesting to figure out how to do it...especially the weight part (batteries). An 80s saloon chassis is just not conductive (pun intended) to good battery placement, me thinks.
I have had this tucked away in my bookmarks for a while though; it's for an e46, but the concepts could easily cross over to an e28. Motor and main battery pack in the front; with lithium ion batteries the weight of both should be relatively close to the original engine and shouldn't compromise balance at all with a range of 50-60 miles. On the e46 prototype from EVDrive site they added a 25kw range extender that fits in the spare tire well, and gives it a 300 mile range.
How's that to get you started?
Re: Ultimate E28 Interior (was Engine Choices)
I found a 1/4 inch hose clamp in my engine bay the other day. It made me irrationally angry.

Re: Engine Choices - No Imperial Tools Allowed
Yes Sir! Threw the "iron Duke" away installed the LS2 & Bravo 1 in the 18 ft. Aristocraft, travel @ 60mph is simply 2700rpm, very stable over 100mph, that is as fast as It will carry me, there is still light years of power remaining unfortunately the 46 year old design is out of length and hull speed. Next big live aboard I buy will see dual LS3's for power and 1,000 lbs. reduction in total weight over the traditional 7.4's.Tammer in Philly wrote:What a silly comment. What part of lighter than an S54, more power than an S54, more cheaply modded to S85+ power, more compact than just about anything other than a weeny 4-cylinder, robust, better fuel economy than an S54, and easily adapted to just about any chassis is bad?euro24 wrote:Anyone suggesting a LS motor, please show yourself the door
Credit where due - the LS motor family is just about the best all-arounder engine family in decades.
Fucking snobbery.
I agree with Tammer, the LSx series is the best thing to come about in 60 years of small block development. The pinnacle in marine use,
Google 557 Marine, look what ZF did.

After much thought between last post and this post, if you don't install a JUDD V8, you spitting upwind for distance, and real Inline 5 or 6 speed sequential gearbox WITHOUT PADDLES. you'll HAVE THE QUICKEST GROCERY GETTER AROUND!

Alright, I've found it. This is the best, most unconventional engine choice you could possibly make. I guarantee no one else is driving a BMW with an engine like this. Are you ready?

Really big ones
I'd love to see a CAT C7 swap into a 524td for the first ever 570td.

Off the line performance would really suck, but you could probably pull all the stumps out of your backyard!euro24 wrote:Alright, I've found it. i wouldn't recommend pulling stumps 'til you changed the timing belt. just saying...euro24 wrote:

Another one? Looks like a good starting point, but talk about yer fixer-upper! What's the wife say about this development?
All said in jest, with more than just a tinge of envy. Looking forward to seeing where you take this one.

I noted above that she took it amazingly well:davintosh wrote:What's the wife say about this development?
The good news is Julie now knows I bought the damn thing and actually took it pretty well. She actually thought I said I was going to be building this E28 *for her*. She basically said NFW. I told her she mis-heard me and that I *knew* she didn't want an E28, that this was for me. Somehow this was fine with her.
I have a tinge of envy about your upcoming Griswold's European Adventure .davintosh wrote:All said in jest, with more than just a tinge of envy. Looking forward to seeing where you take this one.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes to. Lots of ideas, but no real plan yet. Now that it's in my possession the first step will be to poke around it and clean it up to see what I really bought.
Re: Ultimate E28 Interior (was Engine Choices)
Should be fun repainting that.
Re: Ultimate E28 Interior (was Engine Choices)
The perfect shell for that Yugo motor.
Re: Ultimate E28 Interior (was Engine Choices)
Maybe a little late, but an n20 turbo four banger would be neat, it seems to push a heavy f10 around pretty decently. I'm sure it would be more than powerful for a light e28. And you could badge it as a completely stealthy 520i
