I have also heard that they are also a reliable source of quality rebuild kits.

Hey brad I was wondering about clutches and notice there is not clutch info here.
It would be totally radical if you could include some like how much power do stock ones hold and where to get some good ones at etc.

Mostly m30 I know m20b25 will hold 5psi if you're lucky.
I had a tcd 380tq rated clutch I think uuc made it was awesome felt like stock and it slipped on the dyno at about 380ft too. But I don't think tcd uses uuc anymore. ?

Has anyone bolted the E34 535i head up to the E28 block? Should lower compression to allow for higher boost and provide better breathing overall so that the efficiency increases.

Just a thought...

BTDT. Stick with a b34 or b35 long block.

Now why would you stick with a single long block vs mixing heads and short blocks? It would be helpful to provide more info other than just a blanket statement...

The later model heads flow quite a bit better and have a larger chamber volume for reduced compression. Combining the larger bore and shorter stroke of the B34 short block + the larger chamber and better flow of the B35 head would appear to offer the best opportunity for particularly higher boost options while minimizing detonation issues.

There's a lot of info already posted in the FI section about hybrid setups. Basically, these engines seem to do well with detonation without having to drop the CR below 8. On my current b34, I cut the head to accept b35 valves and went with an aftermarket camshaft. You could also use a b35 camshaft in a b34 head to help with flow. Camshaft selection is also a key subject in here too. I think my dyno plot is posted in the sticky along with Brad's; we made similar power, yet I believe he was running more timing and had a point and a half more compression. I remember fighting det on my hybrid setup just the same as I did with a bone stock b34.

I would say that the chance of anyone new supporting the m30 is slim to none.

Brad, this is a really great and super helpful FAQ. I know its been a while but thank you for taking the time to write and update it for our reading satisfaction and technical assistance.

I have referenced the information here many time sin my turbo build.

I had used TCD for my E24......if I knew what I know now it would have been different.

The start to a turbo job on any car is to know what is your limiting factors. From this point, you will have more knowledge of what and were to go for more or less. The biggest downfall I had experienced was the parts and pieces to the turbo system being out of date for power and efficiency. To have to redo such things as a clutch is a big job, to be limited to a small turbo is a bad job, I am able to speak in volumes regarding my experience with TCD. The best I can say is to map out what you have to work with. Note the limits of the weakest part, understand the age of moving parts, especially electrical. Over compensate for the fuel pressure, turbo size, exhaust pipe, inner cooler and stand alone management system. I have increased my turbo from 60 mm to 65mm impeller, I have removed my cam and springs to a turbo cam and double springs, I am now in the process of putting larger injectors fro 450 to 750 cc. looking for the best choice here, if you are able to help that would be great...thanks.

looking to turbo a 535is. the engine is at 271k. Would I be safe boosting this engine or should I find another motor and rebuild it. If so whats a good price on engines?

I'd just run a compression test and see where you're at. If it's low then I wouldn't turbo charge it without deglazing the cylinders, new rings, new rod bearings and such.

Also, unrelated but I figured I'd ask in here rather than make a new thread. In an unopened M30b34 with a Hx35 turbo, how much boost pressure can you run with stock piston ring gap before you run into problems?
