Hi peeps i just aquired a 2.8 m30 motor i am looking to swap it in my e28 518i and rebuild and turbocharge it one time.
i would like to achieve anywere around 300+ hp but i also have a Nos and Water inj Kit from my previous car so i am gonna put those on my motor.
Any suggestions and info on how i should build the engine would be appreciated.
PS: we dont get the 3.5 motor here in Barbados we mostly have 2.8's so i gotta work with what i have

Research Turbo Charging Dynamics.

"TCD" , Todd, is a member here and knows as much about turbocharging BMW motors as anyone.

If you were going to do a full rebuild, it may be worth boring the block and swapping pistons to increase displacement. Of course that'll potentially add many more hundreds of USD to your budget.
Check here for a little more information, but Todd is likely going to be your best resource, as Mark said.

i was doing some research and i see d 3.0 has 89mm pistons as apposed to the 86mm in the 2.8 so i will bore the block to fit the 3.0 pistons

Not 100% percent of this, but usually with BMW blocks there the same just different bore size, keeps cost down on making them all.

From what i gathered the 2.8 and the 3.0 have the same stroke but different piston size.
That may mean same block same crank just different bore size.

correct.

If you are boosting the engine the 200 cc's aren't going to make a whole lot of difference. If you can hone and re-ring what you have...
Just thinking the dollars might be better spent on the boost hardware or engine management system.

Fair enough i was just exploring my options

Probably take more boost on a low liter engine anyway.

head gaskets like to pop right between the cylinder, that's why I did'nt want to turbo my original m90 w /like 92mm bore iirc. It was really thin between the holes.

What manifold are you using?

thinking a TCD manifold cause i am not really seeing manifolds online for the m30's i am only seeing for the m20 engines

It's the correct size for your engine and HP goals.

i have also seen some head gaskets from mls i think it was but i am only seeing for the 3.0 and 3.5 can these work with my application and also would i have to use strengthened head bolts etc?
sorry for all the questions but i wanna be sure before i go and start ordering parts like crazy

I can have Cometic make a gasket for the appropriate size for your engine.
