My shifter was getting a little notchy (noticably so - autosolutions is normally notchy, but I felt a difference and decided to drain and fill the MTL).
Bentley says 1.25l
Drained for 15 minutes (warm and level). Could only get 500ml of MTL through the fill plug. Had to pull the reverse light switch to get the additional 500ml in.
I recall this happened last time I filled it (1.5 years ago) and I didn't get the opportunity to post the problem. Any similar experiences or ideas?
WTF?
G260/5 Fluid capacity conundrum.

Arghh. Took me a long time to find the "reply" button, but there are tons of options how to use it and jazz it up???! I would trash the cute stuff. We are claver enough to dream up our own. Food for thougt.
Strange as that tranny has a breathing opening on top. Could be a vapor lock to the switch, which is a problematic part to begin with? Maybe moving the shifter around while draining could answer this Q. I had one opened and I don't see any reason for it other than a stuck breathing valve? Is it clean, or you have signs of leak anywhere?

I've refilled my Getrag 260 to the normal capacity without problems, don't know why you're having problems.
Additionally, I filled a Getrag 265 with it's required amount, measured in a graduated pitcher, and it came right up to but not out of the fill plug just like the book says.
Well, someday when this puppy fails, or I have the cash to shorten my other driveshaft and pop in the G265 - I'll crack this one open and check. Weird.
500ml. That's less than half the advertized capacity.
I don't think I'd drive the car with the tranny half full of oil. Are you sure you're on a level surface, and are using the correct filling technique?

Yeah, level, proper technique. Using a graduated syringe and a length of tubing filling from a graduated measuring cup. It has 1l of fluid in now, but that's because it was filled the rest of the way through the hole where the reverse light switch goes. I'tll be fine, I'm sure. Has been for 3 years now.
I'm still looking forward to a post mortem to find out if there's actually a pound of sludge displacing fluid in the bottom of the casing. The magnet on the drain comes up clean.
Again...Weird.

Hmm, it sure is weird. If you have a friend in either aircraft engine rebuilding and inspection and access to a flexible borescope OR someone in a hospital with access to a flexible pediatric bronchoscope (borrow the light source too), you can look around in your tranny to see if something's up. the two scopes are the same thing, different prices for medically certified ones.
You could also get some small diameter bottle brushes, bend them at an angle and see if you can sweep up something from the botton of the tranny further than you can reach.
Just a thought.
