Yes, folks, I'm talking about a 3.2 liter S52 engine in place of the 4-banger in an e30 M3. Using this page together with with this page on e30 engine swaps I think you have just about all the info you need to do something like this in an e28 528e.

In 1986, I pulled the 283/Powerglide out of my '57 Chevy and installed a 350/TH350. Damn, that was a difficult swap! %)

Before that, I swapped the Rolls-Royce Merlin out of a P-51B in favor of an Allison out of a P-40 in order to create an A-36. Fabricating the engine mounts and vac-forming the new spinner and cowlings were PITAs! At least I could do all of it on top of a card table. ;)

Hell, Shawn, everyone knows the P-51A has a different engine mount than the -51B and all the rest until the -51H which is different yet again, no wonder you had trouble.
