My engine oil light came on so i pulled off the road to put more oil in, it was 11 or so at night, and i didnt have a flashlight so i just used my cell phone. I put the oil in and when i went to put the cap back on i didnt get it entirely on and it fell off. After searching for 30 minutes to fint the cap (without success) and there was no way of getting help because i was in the middle of the everglades, so i drove it the 25-35 miles back to my house without a oil cap. I was wondering how much damage this possibly could have caused. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

it seemed to run ok, but when i got home and checked the engine oil was everywhere, but also the check oil light went out and never came back on so i guess that was atleast a good thing.

Youch! That sucks! Check all of your electrical connectors to make sure you don't have oil all over them. That oil is gonna take a while to clean up all the way.
Check the oil level with the dipstick. If your oil level sender is not working properly, then the oil may have gone low and the light didn't cut on. You're probably in the clear, though.

NOT A RECOMMENDATION- JUST INFORMATION...
On the 535i, the gas cap and the oil cap are physically interchangeable. Doesn't make it a good idea, though. Does anyone know if there are problems with swapping either way?
