I just purchased a 87' 535is with 208K on the clock. The guy I bought it off said the car will need a starter.

The starter spins when the vehicle is cold or has been sitting for a while. It seems to fire up when warm or used awhile.

Do I still need a starter or is there something that can be fixed with the current starter?

Thanks

You could have it overhauled and that would be cheaper than a new one.

If you do decide to replace it I would highly reccomend a later model reduction gear starter. MUCH easier to install.

Mine came off of a 318is, fit great and works great. I did have to change the trigger wire terminal from a female spade to a ring terminal.

Hey George, I think you should just crush that POS! ;)

Anyone ever try a starter from a 6-cylinder E30 325i in a 535i/is?
