I need to know if anyone has any tips, tricks, or hints on getting to the bell housing on a 533i to replace the speedo sensor. For some reason, it is extremely sporadic, and runs like garbage when the speedo isnt working, but when it rarely works, it runs perfect. This is compounded by the fact that I ran a bottle of injector cleaner through the system, which seemed to aggravate the problem.

Jack-up the front of the car, and set some stands. Should take about 15-20 minutes to swap out the sensor. Just be sure to route the new one from up top first. Keep in mind that the sensors are located under a protection plate, and can be a pita to get off. If I can remember correctly the speed sensor is the first/uppper on on the bell housing.

Test it first. Check Bentley for the procedure. IIR ristance across pins 1 & 2 should be 960 ohms +- %10. 1 & 3 should be 10K ohms. (Don't trust my memory; I don't. Check Bentley ) Also the values can change after the car has run a while. My readings where dead on after the car had sat for about two hours and WAY out after the car had been run for a while.
R&R is very simple. Don't mix up the sensors.

5mm hex key, BTW. And a pair of pliers comes in handy to pull the old one out of the bell housing, they tend to get intimate w/one another over time.

Located in 698 S. Jefferson. No pics of the ride currently, but if you see a black 533i screaming by @ greater than 80 MPH, you can probably bet on it being me. PM me and lets talk shop.
