How to find out if it's a 4HP22-EH or 4HP22?
How to find out if it's a 4HP22-EH or 4HP22?
Hi, I've got an '85 535i Auto. How can I find out if the auto trans is 4HP22-EH or 4HP22? I'm looking for a replacement driveshaft and apparently they're different for each. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. The car has been in the family since 1986 and don't think the trans was swapped. It's just been a dependable daily driver. Other than the power window buttons and auto shift selector there are no other knobs/buttons on the console. There's no sport, normal, or eco knob/button. Real OEM shows that's it's a 4HP-22/H. I will look for the cables and try to find the label on the driver side.

Cool, got it. Can you tell me if this one that would fit? The description states "not for cars with rear CV joint ", but I believe there are CV joints in the rear for the half shafts.Kyle in NO wrote:As I said, no knob and 3 cables = non-EH.

By no CV joint they mean on the driveshaft. But there was a thread just a couple of days ago on D/S and Mesa Performance was only $325 for one. My limited dealings with them were very good, and they're at least semi local to you.n00dle wrote:Cool, got it. Can you tell me if this one that would fit? Mike W., just wanted to update that I did end up using Mesa Performance for the driveshaft. They're kinda local, but it was easier and cost effective to just have them ship it. It wasn't worth the gas or time to run down there. Spencer at Mesa took care of what I needed quickly and was pleasant doing business with. The car rolls vibe less and smooth now
