Can one of you get me the length of the shift rod for a 265 tranny with a sheet metal console?

Trying to install the one I received from BMW did not work and the rod seems to be a least 1" too long. It is 1 220 565. I chunked the original one, yea I know. So I am not sure if this is actually too long or if I am doing something wrong on install. I received the alternate shift rod listed in the ETK and other than a bend in it, the length is the same. BTW, the 565 rod was 16 Euro and the one with a bend was over 62 Euro, I told them to keep it.

I am a little perplexed and this is keeping me from getting the drive shaft in and the exhaust on.

I just received my exhaust tip from BNC and that baby is nice. I also received the metal brackets and other stuff from MacMaster Carr and am ready to finish this Mutha! I will be going to the garage everyday after work now that the temp are OK and we have light.

Duke,

I just so happen to have the tranny out of my '85 project 535.

265 tranny and sheet metal shift console, too!!

I measure 148 mm from centerline pin to centerline pin, along the shift rod.

HTH

I have mine out too. Measured 5 inches pin center to pincenter.

What is the Bentley problem in this area??? :? Does it apply to the sheet metal console too?
