Whats that bolt you guys always talk about when you do a valve adjustment, is it a banjo bolt you say to replace? And does anybody have the part number for it, I'm trying to find it, but cannot.

11 42 1 738 621 -- order two. Get the copper seal rings too, four of them.

This is the bolt that holds the oil sprayer bar to the head. It is hollow, oil flows through it. The problem that makes these a subjuct of conversation is that earlier versions of these bolts would loosen, allowing oil to spill out around the bottom instead of pumping through the sprayer bar, thus allowing your cam to run dry. Bad juju.

The current version comes with dry thread locker pre-installed, so they don't suffer the same problem.

Be very gentle with this bolt, too. Due to the fact that it is hollow and has holes near the head (for the sprayer bar), it is very fragile. If you put any more pressure than the recommended torque, the head of that bolt will snap right off.

You might also consider doing the dual chamber upgrade to the bar.

Even though the new banjo bolts have a thread lock on them, I still use lock tight blue when installing. Make sure you clean the threads in the head good by removing all oil. Use a Q-tip and simple green.

Is there any reason not to do the oil spray bar modification?

It seems straight-forward and simple enough to do. I plan to do it the next time I do a valve adjustment, but I have to order a new valve cover gasket first.

Some clarification is in order:

The M20 engines do not have the banjo bolt/oiling bar set-up, just a thin tube attached at each end with a pipe fitting.

The new banjo bolts for the M30 engine come with "blue lock-tite" on the threads. The alum. crush washers must all be replaced (4).

The tightening torque is100 in-lbs.
