I run the ansa silverlines on mine. They come as polished stainless, but I painted them black. You can buy these from most of the online retailers. I got mine from pelican.

^^ OEM exhaust does not come with any tips. Good call painting the Silverline ones- I was dissapointed they have a "silverline" name on them visable unless installed upside down.

Are those factory spec length? ( they seem a little short, maybe it's the pic)

Some 2000 grit wet-dry takes the Silverline right off. They really shouldn't be installed upside-down as you then see the dimples in them from above.

Can anyone tell me the inner diameter of these ansa tips? I got some longer ansa tips for the e28 535i but they did not fit my m5 tailpipes which I measured the outer diameter to to be approx 49mm. Not sure if my m5 muffler is the original one that came with the car but it does have BMW stamped on the muffler.

I bought a pair of ANSA tips from Amazon for my M635. I think it uses the same muffler as the M5. They were around $11 each. Part # is 82119413968. They are 46 mm.

There is another part number for the 45 mm tips: 82119413969.

Not sure which one is right for your muffler.

Just purchased the ANSA BW 3909 (Silverline) or OEM 82 11 9 413 968 and these DO NOT fit my 85 M535 with new factory muffler. They're supposed to be 46mm tips, but do not fit. Any help with a part number is appreciated. E28 M5 lists a 45mm chrome tip. You may have a chance with the Ansa number I purchased..

I bought an NOS 82119413968 on the bay a while back. Too impatient to wait for another BMW original to come up, I bought the ANSA unit of the same part number. As y'all have figured out, the ANSA is much smaller. Because my new exhaust is a cheap POS for any 'ol 535, the tube diameter is such that the ANSA and the BMW tips fit but the size difference makes it look wonky...

Anyway, the inner diameter of the NOS tip is 51.9 mm and the ANSA inner diameter is 45.7 mm. Apart from the diameter size, the major difference is the quality dimple pattern used in the BMW part : two sets of 3 dimples, offset such that the tip is centered on the tube. The ANSA uses one large dimple.

So I guess my point is that 82119413968 is probably the correct part number but only if the part is NOS.

This seems to be the best thread regarding exhaust tips, so that's why I'm posting to this old thread.

I have a new BMW OEM exhaust in my 535. I bought the ANSA Silverline tips, which is pretty much all that shows up in Google if you search looking for BMW part 82119413968.

The exhaust shop didn't want to try to press the ANSAs onto my new OEM exhaust because the ANSA was too small. I know these are a purely cosmetic part, but they're so much purtier than the gray exhaust pipes.

What are people doing to (i) get the ANSAs to fit, or (ii) source a part that fits better?

The Ansa Silverline tips don't hold up to weather because they aren't stainless steel, fyi.

I just cleaned up my originals that i thought were gone, they're marked 45, not 46.. Just to complicate things more, i thought it was a bit strange, since real.oem.com states 46mm..

Hmmm, mine were definitely stainless. We confirmed that at the muffler ship before installation.

And, BTW, speaking of installation, we had to use a hydraulic expander on the tips to get them to go on. The pipe expander was only capable of reaching 2" into the pipe (as I think is standard for that tool), so we shortened the tips down to 4", expended them a bit from each end, then pounded them on.

The Silverline tips are stainless, but they are likely shitty stainless, like Stebro exhausts.

So to back up just for a second, because everyone on this thread seems to be pretty knowledgeable about these exhaust tips, how do these actually get installed? I'm looking everywhere and can't find a write-up. Thanks!

They slide on and are held in place by friction.

Spot on. I actually used a wire brush to knock down some of the surface rust on the raw exhaust tips, then lightly pushed a tip on. Then I took a small block of wood and placed it at the end of the tip and gently hammered it on. Repeated the same process for the other second tip. Simple installation! Way easier than I thought
