Greetings everyone, Just bought a genuine Canadian market 1985 524TD on the weekend. This has the dash in KM and has all the Transport Canada stickers, etc. Body is amazing condition with no rust anywhere - original paint! Does have the leaky pump problem, needs some (minor) TLC and seems like dead batteries in the cluster, but I'm having a ball working on it.
I've been searching to find import production numbers for the US and Canada everywhere, but nothing. Does anyone have any knowledge how many were officially imported into Canada, US? I would assume Canadian market imports would be even rarer than the US ones.
Goal is to restore her to former glory and enjoy... I've always wanted one!
How many 524TD were imported into Canada?

Re: How many 524TD were imported into Canada?
Hi Harry
I just acquired a 1985 524 td here in Loreto,BCS, Mexico on May 2, 2014. 120920 original miles, just a beauty. Garage kept out of the sun for the past 20 years. Drives like a dream, steering feels like it just came out of the factory. Some interesting times ahead, the car is out of California so not a Canadian model. The car hasn't been registered or on California roads since 1996....for $201 US it will be transferred over to me, plated and stickered for the road. I started this process yesterday.
Seems it has the similar problem with battery issue in the instrument cluster. Just another challenge. It will have to wait until the fall, we are just heading back to Vancouver area tomorrow, and won't be back down until November. Plan on doing a lot of research and reading over the next 6 months. We have a 1997 328i in Vancouver.
Take care,
Bill

Re: How many 524TD were imported into Canada?
I've been looking for a well cared and well maintained 524td myself for several months. I saw the low miles ebay example that was listed back in November 2013 that sold for about $8,300 if I recall correctly. I didn't see that listing until after it had sold. Since that time I've been researching the 524td. I visited BMW welt in Munich 3 months ago and asked the personnel there how many 524td's had been imported into the USA. They told me they didn't know offhand but they would submit the question to the appropriate department and would get back to me. Several weeks later a gentleman named Bill from BMW North America from New Jersey called me with the import numbers for the USA. Here it is:
1985: 1,847 units
1986: 1,759 units for a total of 3,606
The last import month December 1986 a total of 26 cars were brought in.
