I was checking out the new jag, and I love how they sound. So raspy,crackle/ pop hard to explain the sound but it's sweet! Mustangs also seem to have it. I have 3" exhaust and it sounds deep and growls a bit, but nothing like the Jag. What is it? I know they have variable cam timing, is that the difference?

The crackle/pop is a result of tuning. It's a sort of very slight backfire on throttle lift due to overfueling/over-advanced timing on throttle lift.

My megasquirt is tuned to run pretty lean on decel (16.5-17.5) and it makes nice popping noises.

Just retard timing at the bottom edge of your ignition table and move the threshold for the overrun fuel cut up to like 3000 RPM. If noise is what you want that'll get it popping and sputtering.

Or just shut over run completely off and run rich in the high rpm low load and you CAN shoot 10' flames lol, you just have to blip the throttle or come on off on off medium hard and it will do it. the raspyness of its usually found in v8's without resonators or mufflers(or mufflers that dont do much). My moms 98 mustang gt had the cats plug up about 8 years ago so instead of buying the ford factrory pipe we went cat-less and resonator-less with a BBK X-pipe and it has the rasp, the growl and the bark now. The raspyness usually has to do with some sort of conflicting resonance, ie a cross-over pipe frequency.
