Setting up vr on ms2

Hello I'm currently putting together my ms2 v3 unit. At this point I have had no hicups with testing the unit other than getting the stim to simulate rpm. I'm using the Jim stim and followed the Instructions to setup that up for vr output. Now im trying the get the megasquirt unit setup for it, I'm not sure if I should jump from tsel to vrout of vroutinv. I'm using tunerstudio and am still trying to understand all the trigger settings. Could some one let me know how they setup their megasquirt so that the jimstim could stimulate rpm

I'm using a jumper between TSEL and VROUT and then using Rising Edge as the capture mode with 84* as the Tooth #1 angle. It works fine with the JimStim.

so im still not picking up a tach signal. heres a screenshot of my settings. when i look at other peoples settings it seems there are alot more options for tuning. is it worth paying the extra money for the full version? im going to try tuning the pots now

heres some pictures of my board. if anything looks abnormal ask me. im running the diy autotune pwm idle valve mod kit.
jumper from tsel to vrout,
jumper from ign to ignout

What firmware are you using? It has some options I haven't seen before (Prediction algo, tach signal mask, some other stuff) and you're not getting the backported ms3 interfaces so it looks like it might be kind of old. I'm running MSExtra 3.3.0. Have you used the tooth logger to see if you're getting any sort of VR signal? Also, is there any particular reason your lag values are so low? Can you post your full .msq? Here's mine for reference: http://hosted.streamwhat.com/2014-08-31 ... 34.msq.zip

As for upgrading to the full version of TunerStudio it's really just to get the VE Analyze Live, which is probably worth it to get a decent tune.

ya im running version 2.9, it was just the standard option. After looking through your msq i am definantly going to update my firmware then try again. I was wondering why all my options looked different than others, like the fact i couldnt use the tooth logger

So I upgraded the firmware to ms 3.3.2 and used the tooth logger. I am getting absolutely no signal or anything. Ill upload my msq later but I think I may have to check the vr circut at this point. I have completed all the other steps in the mega manual for testing like o2 sensor etc.

If your getting vr signal one of the leds will flicker.

I read about that, all the lights flicker real quick when the stim is first powered up. I'm gonna go back and check all my connections. Does anyone see an issue in the picks with the way it is wired.

so i checked all my connections tonight and found that my jumper from tsel to vrout wasnt properly connected, i fixed that and now i get 4.8 volts. i still cannot get a signal to tunerstudio. i have all the settings on ts correct. when i view the tooth logger i get nothing. so far i have tried adjusting the vr pots, jumpering d2. I really dont know where to go from here without having to replace all the vr circut components.

I'm still using Megatune, TS looks intimidating to me( too many options), but , I seem to recall you have to tell TS which ecu you have before it will work (1 is entered to indicate ms2 iirc).
Have you done this yet? Did you install the driver for the usb adapter cable?
Try going to communication and verify laptop is connected to ms2.

Ya I'm running msextra now so there is no option for setting the ecu. I have all the settings perfect. Ts reads the o2 value of my stim and displays voltage.

I did find the issue tonight. I finally found a good article for testing the vr circuit with a voltimeter. All the other write ups include using an oscilloscope. Anyway I traced the voltage, I got 4.5 volt all the way up to the first input on the 8pin u7 chip. Apparently you should get the same amount of volts on pin 2 because the only thing that happens between pin 1 and 2 is noise canceling. Well I got .5 volts on pin 2 so that indicated that u7 was faulty. Im placing an order for all the components of the vr circuit since they are cheap. I have no idea why u7 isn't functioning, I didnt overheat it and the solders are good. Once i change u7 out I'll test it again and give an update. Hopefully it works.
