Sofica and Behr Blower Motor Dimensions

Post by eshtog »

I have a 1985 Mercedes 2.3 16v with an aftermarket AC with a IPRA blower I am trying to replace. I have spent hours looking for a direct replacement IPRA blower, but I cannot find one anywhere or even info on where to get one.

While trying to find a replacement online I came across the Behr and Sofica blower for the E28 and they look identical to the IPRA blower I have. Would anyone be kind enough to tell me the diameter of the motor, diameter of the blower cages, and distance between the cages? From my research looks like the Sofica is 10.5" wide overall and the Behr is 11" wide overall.

I know this is a BMW forum, but if it matters I have a E30 M3 and E39 M5 :)

Thanks in advance!

I got my answer for the dimensions of the Behr blower by asking for them from a seller on ebay. Does anyone have dimensions of the Sofica blower?

Thank you!

I think I've got a Sofica tucked away somewhere. Might not get to it to measure until the weekend though.

A Behr motor case is smaller diameter than a Sofica. Differnce is maybe 3/16. I wrapped the Behr in cardboard until it clamped down snugly. Over all span of the fans is 11 1/8 "

Here you go. The shaft being 6MM might get lost but I think the rest of it is clear.

Are you sure that is a sofica blower and not behr? According to Bavauto the behr is about 11" wide and the sofica is about 10.5" wide.

I'll double check, but I'm nearly certain. Now it is possible that it came out of an E21, and they are interchangeable, although perhaps not perfectly so. But I seem to recall someone recently adapting the cages to a Bosch motor and the shaft was smaller on the Sofica, and this is only 6MM. FWIW, I've seen very similar blower motor assys on domestic light trucks and vans. No idea about their specs.

Interesting. Your blower has the same dimensions as the Behr but with a Sofica sticker. Thanks for the link! Looks like it will fit and I placed the order for one.

Again thanks for taking the time to help out!
