MSPNP2 problem - help asap

Post by tallfreak »

I bought MSPNP2 and connected it to my super eta harness. I installed an e34 TPS and GM IAT sensor. It starts and runs but with the MS unit plugged in my main relay is powered up. I checked and my DME doesn't do this. I can't figure out why my MS is somehow powering itself up. 2 of the 4 red lights come on when plugged up and stay on. To power cycle on Tuner Studio I have to disconnect the main relay

Do you have the correct main relay? It should have two 87 spades and not an 87a or 87b. I ended up with the wrong relay when I first installed my megasquirt and it did the same thing. The one I had was purple (0332209151) and the correct one was black (0332019109) If you do have the correct one you'll probably have to trace the ignition wire to see if it's getting connected to 12v without the key being in run.

Mine is white. I will check. I think it has 87 and 87A. Everything is working as it should with the factory DME. Ignition circuit is fine.

I already have the correct relay. I have contacted diyautotune and they are helping me out. Hopefully I can get it figured out soon.

If you have an 87a relay it is incorrect. I misremembered about 87b, that one will work. But 87a won't because it acts as the opposite of the 87 pin because it's normally closed. See here: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=113392

I am working on it with Diyautotune. It's looking like I got a bad unit.

Instead of starting a new thread I'll just ask here:

I am trying to set up wasted spark. I bought the quadspark module and their ign 6 coil. I know how to wire it to the mspnp2 but I can't for the life of me figure out what position to put the board jumpers inside the box. I don't know what half of this stuff means. One place I read something about pull-up resistors. Another place said to wire it like the diagram shows. I am so confused. There is so much info on mega squirt and all of the different versions that I get lost and frustrated. I can handle the tuning part once I get it all set up like it needs to be. Has anyone here set up mspnp2 for wasted spark?

You should be able to run two of your QuadSpark drivers from S2 and S3 on your MSPNP. The docs on diyautotune's site seem to state you just need to jump the first three spark jumpers for 6-cyl wasted spark. Pull-up resistors look like they're only needed if you're using Spark C and D. Then you'd just run those outputs from the QuadSpark to the coil and combine them with the stock power and trigger into the connector for the IGN-6. The rest takes place in software.

Set IGN A/C Pullup Enable to ON and IGN A/C to SeQ.

See Addition Coil Drivers + Board Jumpers sections:

For wasted spark? I was planning on running 3 of the quadspark outputs using the option connector. Is that not how it needs to be done?

Yes, for wasted spark. Chances are that the jumpers are already in the correct position by default (obviously double check).

Using QuadSpark and the options port makes this all very simple. Is there a specific step that you're stuck on?

Remember to pair IGN A to Cyl 1&6, IGN B to Cyl 5&2, and IGN C to Cyl 4&3.

Power cycle at least twice when switching from Single Coil to Wasted Spark.

I just don't know what position to put the jumpers on the board. I haven't changed any of them.

Did you follow directions in the link I provided? That is the MSPNP2 documentation.

Set jumper #13: IGN A/C Pullup Enable to ON
Set jumper #12: IGN A/C to SeQ.

Otherwise post a picture of your jumpers and I can verify for you. It'll be 2-3cm from the Map sensor, to the right of the vacuum hose.

I will check tonight when I get home.

I don't really need to know why because it might just make it more confusing, but you would think setting the ign jumpers to wasted spark would be for wasted spark. I paid extra for the Pnp because I have no interest in how it works. I just want to tune my car.
