Im trying to figure out what i need to do on my 86' 528e involving the idle control valve, which is either on or off as far as i know. I have done a lot of a reading and cannot seem to find an answer, i see lots of people just unplug the ICV and crack their throttle plate, open a little bit but people seem to complain about the idle in the cold and what not. I am also reading about these "3 wire pwm idle mods" from Glens Garage, but my idle valve has two wires.

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

I had this issue with my setup although with the more common three wire bosch found on the m30 motor. The glen garage website is now a scam basically, you can send money but you will receive nothing. My suggestion would be to use the three wire and adapt that to your setup, just buy the kit from diyauto tune and a 50 watt 50 ohm resistor to run with the ground. Alternatively you can just crack the throttle, i did this for awhile and alot of oem cars do, only draw back is you will have to give it some throttle on cold starts.

Do not use a resistor to control the other side of the valve. I've done it. You don't need a GG idle board, just search for the circuit that uses 2 tip120 transistors. One transistor is controlled by MS and the other is operated inversely, so the idle valve coils are working together to move the slide- not fighting to pull the valve open from a closed position.
