Drivetrain limits?

Hello I have an 86' e24 5m/t m30 b35/b34. I am using an "RSI" top mount t4 manny, and PTE 6266 turbo (.82), FMIC, walbro 255 "in tank" feeding walbro 255lph "inline"(gsl392). 1000cc injectors and 50psi base pressure. i am using LINK G4 Plus ECU. I will be tuned for pump gas and e85. Map blending based on fuel % via flex fuel sensor, wanting to run 20psi (e85) hoping for 400-420whp Houston heat and humidity doesn't help. I was wondering if any drivetrain components need to be upgraded? Getrag (with fins on bottom), 3.73LSD, driveshaft, axles? I like my occasional burnt out and hard launches but I am not a consistent abuser. I enjoy mostly rolling pulls but any one have any recommendations or will stock be ok?

The chassis isn't much different from a m635, with almost 300hp and they're pretty much bulletproof. Alpina sooped up some e24s to almost 350hp with out really beefing up the drivetrain. Those were supercars of their day and were supposed to be high maintenance too. If you can respect the car, 400hp should be fine.

There isn't really any off the shelf HD parts for making a high horsepower drift car, but the chassis is pretty robust as long as you're smooth.

Got any pics of that beast???

I shattered my driveshaft by punching the clutch and gas at the same time. I'd done it before and it definitely gets the party started, when it doesn't blow up. I upgraded my driveshaft tube after that, but I don't cane it that hard anymore. I'm sick of working on it.

That's awesome man. Did you make a hole in your hood for that waste gate? Good luck on the tuning. Let us know how it goes.

Debating on relocating the wastegate or just dumping into the downpipe that passes over it tuning won't be an issue LINK software is very straight forward. I know I should flip my throttle body but I'm lazy lol.

Just FYI for anyone hating on my choice of ECU... "Vi-pec" the ECU that's used on a lot of the Swedish built cars the members here drool over is made by LINK.

Re-pinning the stock harness, I know I should run sequential, but I'm not running a crazy cam or anything batch will do just fine.

Trying to find out if this is a swipe at the poster or if he actually has a Corolla that I am missing.

Yo Rod,

Sweet looking setup. I'm jealous that I'm not talented enough to put together a projext like this. Keep us posted as you go along.

I didn't understand either? Unless the pic I tried to post was the wrong url lol. People who troll are funny to me because 9 out of 10 they don't have the balls to belittle people in person. In reality if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person at the right time u get a foot in your ass. At the end of the day this is a website where people who share similar interest come to have discussions show Off there builds and bounce ideas off other members but it seems that the trolling, the belittling, the pet peeves about Miss properly spelled words , wrong grammar or posting in the wrong section has really really taken away from the experience of this website it is actually quite disappointing . Honestly it does not take talent to accomplish this type of build it takes patience and lots of research and don't forget the most important thing money LOL .

While I agree with you on a few things you mentioned, I think the Corolla post wasn't a swipe. Earlier there was a picture of a harness and now there's a picture of a black Chevy Malibu.

There was a photo of a white corolla yesterday.

I'm certain it has to do with where the photos are hosted. Excited to see what we get tomorrow! I'm hoping for a Veloster.

i just wanted to point out that we have pretty much the same setup. im also running a 6266 and it made 409/448 on 17lb and everything has held perfect for the last 10k its been boosted. only been to the drag strip once and it held great......... i do, however, beat on it from rolls atleast once a day (daily driver) and again, never had any issues

i'm sure the diff could easily be exploded at a track on some hard launches though

have fun and good luck! it will surely surprise the hell out of a ton of cars out on the street!

Other than the usual clutch and bushing damage, which is to be expected, the only driveline failure I experienced was to twist the splined section of the driveshaft where the front and rear tubes mate together. It never sheared off completely but it wouldn't take much more to do that than it does to twist it up.

Nice I was planning on boosting to 22-24 psi on e85 and 1bar on pump gas car should be getting tuned and dynoed this week. Can I ask what dyno your car put down 400hp on?

Running a spec stage 3 plus clutch btw... Thoughts?

Your images didn't show up. That spec clutch is the same one I am using and so far it has held up great. It made 400 at 17lb on a dynojet. It really likes 21lb though. Wish e85 was more readily available around here.

Do you think I could look over your timing map? Dyno read that ambient air temps were 107f and my car made 265hp on pump gas, on 15lbs of boost that just seems really low to me and my car made 100 foot pounds more torque with the m106 setup I had on 15psi. Another question what size intercooler are you using?

I am running a custom intake manifold with built in water-air cores...... and sorry my tuning computer is currently having some issues so I can't pull off the tables, but I will tell you that I run on 93oct with some small 50/50 water/meth injection and at 220kpa I run up to 20* and on 250kpa up to 16*

Do you have any idea what your actual intake temps climbed to? In 107 ambient I'm sure it was struggling in the IAT department and that does not help at all

make sure that your base timing is correct, when I got my megasquirt first up and running I had the base timing set 13* too retarded :x needless to say it was a slow turd at 15lb.... the second I put a timing light on it and set to correct timing it was an instant difference..... You should easily be 375ishwhp at 15lb

Where did you get your intake manifold? What is an actual good value for base timing? My IAT's were 150f on pump gas made 265whp and on e85 22psi IATs were 122f and car made 330whp on a dyno dynamics dyno in Houston on 107f ambient day and high humidity.

with link all it asks for is trigger offset distance from trigger position to actual tdc which is 84 degrees but I have it set at 90 because that's where it was dead on with timing light.

intake manifold was a one off piece from TCD from back in '06 or so.... won't find another one... sounds like you have the base timing correct, since you verified it with a light. mine runs at 84

do you have it setup to pull timing by iat? im curious if you are pulling any timing around that 150 mark?
