Timing belt change questions

I just ordered a timing belt and tensioner can someone give me a rundown on changing the belt and tensioner on my 85 please? I was trying to gather as much info as I could but it seems like people were all over the place. Do I need to time my injection pump when I do the time by belt or will it be fine also?

You can lock the infection pump and camshaft and line everything up by the timing marks. No adjustments needed. I used a drill bit and a crescent wrench 15 years ago and it worked fine.

Okay awesome that helps. I know there’s a certain way to put the belt on so I’ll have to figure that out.

Specifics on setting the pump timing are here

you might not absolutely have to do it, but its worth checking to make sure its right. Its honestly not that difficult. The most difficult part is trying to not lose the copper washer under the injection pump head plug. Its an 8mm, auto parts stores don't have them but my local hardware store does.

The Ford books have pretty good detail on how to install the belt. Links to those are in this post. I presume the BMW manuals do too, but the scans aren't as clear.
