Texas E28 community

Hi there - e28 fan here, so looks like I’m in the right place. Moved just south of Austin and hope to get in amongst it and meet a few local owners & travel to some car meets. I used to live in the UK for 20 years and previous to that South Africa. I own two M88 engined euro e28 m5’s and will be shipping them from the UK to Houston port in the next 8-10 weeks. Previous to that owned several other Bmw’s but the e28 platform is my favorite. Hoping to meet other enthusiasts and travel to some shows. Please do let me know if you’re in Texas and local to me as well as a heads up on any shows and events that o may be able to attend in TX. Thanks in advance.

I used to live in San Marcos, but moved to Utah a few years ago. Check out the TexFest thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=160008

I went in 2019 and it was a lot of fun!

I'm "Texas Local" to you down in Kerrville. There's a few E28 owners in Austin and a handful in San Antonio. You have the fast E28's, I have the opposite. 524TD. Definitely look into TexFest in October at the link Sherman gave.

Hopefully not! I still have stuff to sort out on this thing before TF. Time's moving quick though. Will be nice to finally have the "correct" 5-series for once!

I saw this texfest just after I posted - definitely motivation to get the cars across so I am able to attend with the appropriate wheels :)

Always wanted a 524, had 3 m535i’s (dogleg), and two 525 eta’s - nothing better than wafting along in a comfy e28 !!!

My e28 m5 was sent to Hartge to receive some upgrades - actually I found a reference to my car indexed here if you search “greed is good” not sure how to insert the link

This link to the pdf might work. The car now sits on bbs wheels and has a badged up like an M5. Still have the Hartge wheels

Mine's definitely more of a "survivor" than a show car. Torched paint, cracked dash, American "safety" bumpers that double as a place to sit while waiting for a tow truck...

I'm more about keeping it going and making it a proper "grampa-spec" cruiser. It's smooth and comfortable, just not fast, but still fun to drive. Bringing it back and making it presentable and reliable by October is a pretty monumental undertaking, but it'll be at TexFest if I have to tow it there. Not a big deal, I live 20 minutes from this year's venue.

Typical online venders.
BluntTech, FCP, AutohausAZ, etc.

All TF cars have character to one degree or another.
You'll fit right in.

Interesting most sites don’t seem to list an M5 on their vehicle option list. How are you guys finding an m5 filter and would an m88 engine oil filter be the same as an s38 engine oil filter ?

RealOEM.com and search by VIN.
Cross referencing parts is available there too.

You've been seeing me there since 2017. First with Mercedes, then with various E34's and last year an E46. Finally an E28, the correct 5-Series for this year!

We're planning an E28 this year as well. :ohyeah:

... unless someone wants to buy an E23,
delivered to the event. :heehee:

I can read the ad now..."New ignition switch!" I can't wait for the fall/winter so I can yank the dash and rebuild the WOEFULLY INADEQUATE A/C system in the 524. Hopefully fix all the electrical gremlins while I'm in there too.

Actually, it could be either.
You see I picked up another Alpine '733i, this one an '84 also, but a factory 5 speed, with euro bumpers, lights, valance, and complete L7 interior (including leather dash) that is in pristine condition.
The car was driven from Bay area, CA to HTX, ~ 2,200 miles, and then less than 2 months later driven to Vintage, Hot Springs, NC, and back, ~ 3,000 miles, w/o one hiccup. A set of new tires went on the style 42 wheels, which is the only thing done to the car during that 5K + mile adventure. Well, that and swapped out the Auto Authority chipped ECU for a stock one so I could run 87 octane fuel.

Uh-oh. You're becoming an E23 hoarder like David and Eric!
