New spare tire cover

Got tired (pun intended  ) of looking at my disintegrating spare tire cover, and new ones are NLA or ridiculously expensive (and made of particle board). I made a new one from 1/4" oak plywood. You'll need a jigsaw, 2" and 3-5/8" hole saws, 1/4" adhesive backed closed cell foam, some sandpaper and some paint. Turned out really nice and I really like how the grain shows through; I almost just clear polyurethaned it....maybe another time.

Top work! I've bought a coupe of old spares but they are not much better that what I already had on my car. Disintegrating particle board.

Your post has inspired me to get cracking on making a replacement for my car. Thanks for the encouragement!

Nice work! We’re missing this piece. Looks like we’ll be making one

if possible, reinforce the particle board before it self destructs. Flood it with low viscosity super glue. It works putting cracked masonite, particle board which is falling apart. Have the parts available and clamped in place with waxed paper or some other release agent. They have videos.

Just did this with a masonite midrange baffle in a Dahlquist DQ-10 speaker so now I don't have to make one of these. Previously used to to reattach a cracking but still attached, back panel ledge on a cabinet.

Pics don’t load for me.

This is something I’m definitely interested in. Mine is in bad shape. The particle board is falling apart. I can use some inspiration.
