About 15 months ago I purchased a 524td from a member on this forum and I'm getting ready to swap in an s38b36 out of a '93 M5 that had excellent leak down. I'm building the project for my father who bought an '88 m5 when they first came to the States. Funny story: I shot my hand point blank with a pellet gun that year and my dad drove ~ 125mph over the Dumbarton Bridge to the ER in Fremont where he worked. The 524td has vacuum assisted brakes like the 93 m5 so that simplifies some of the swap. I had a couple of questions after reading the following threads:

and Bob Anderson's s38b38 swap:

1. Will the existing accessories from the s38b36 fit in the e28 engine bay or do I need to use e28 brackets for alternator, power steering pump, and a/c?
2. Bob mentioned deleting his air pump. Have others done the same and just use a shorter belt since the air pump would be removed?
3. How much easier would it be to use s38b35 cooling plumbing than the s38b36? I have both.
What I have so far:
A Getrag 265 with shift assembly
a corresponding new driveshaft and clutch kit,
harness adaptor between the s38b36 engine harness and e28 fuse box;
a 535i radiator and an e28 m5 radiator
new rod bearings
new rear main seal
a bunch of new hoses from Angry Ass Solutions
custom motor mounts from e28goodies
1988 m5 complete exhaust including the oem exhaust manifolds
soon to purchase a 3.73 LSD diff.
thanks!
