I will admit I've strayed through numerous varieties of cars, with a few BMWs over the years. Imports included MGs, Mercedes, Volvos, BMWs and domestics from Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and many more.
The BMWs included a 1977 320i, 1998 Z3, 2012 X5 twin turbo V8(loved it), but now starting to look to go back to the 80s possibly with the 528e, or other 5 series. Locally I've test driven a 1984 528e, 91k Ohio car, some rust seen in the undercarriage, timing belt replaced, radio heavy crackle, cracked dash, seats excellent condition, doors need good effort to close, AC compressor kicks on but no cool, computer blank, 5 speed, passenger window inop (other 3 function), sunroof works, and runs/drives good. Repainted at some point (missing 528e badge in rear), and good luster, but can see some spots in undercarriage and rear lower valance where it is rusted. Also bumper you can actually grab it and it goes up and down about 1/2". They're asking 8500(originall 9500), I'm thinking with all this much, much less, or walk away or look at another with better, more solid components.

I've got a really nice M30B35 swapped 528e with lots of great parts and almost none of the issues you mentioned. If you're interested shoot me a message.

computer blank, Needs new lamps or LEDs in the OBC light bar. I've done about 100 LED installs in original light bars.
bumper you can actually grab it and it goes up and down about 1/2". Which bumper? Front is mounted to front of frame rails rear is mounted to body hard points but the left one is susceptible to road debris entering the front of the tube causing the tube to corrode. Will reach the spare tire well, left rear quarter when the tube is near gone.

Prices have and continue to go up, but that sounds awfully expensive for a so so car, particularly one having some rust. Several of the issues you mentioned are easy fixes, but not rust. Especially at this point in their lives, rust, body and paint are much more important than mechanical. Interior can get expensive, but body and paint are stupid expensive.

Windows that don't work is often because of a switch with dirty contacts. You can either replace the switch with a good one, or carefully take it apart to clean and polished the contacts (a regular pencil eraser works well to clean them.)

If I were in the market,
I'd fly in and drive home in this.

not to derail the thread - @Euroshark, is it OK if I DM you with a few questions about your setup? Engine bay looks very very clean.

x100 on this car.
I have seen this car many times over the last year (including just this past weekend). It is beyond just a solid driver, it is an exceptional driver. Most everything has been done to this car that needs to, it has great working A/C (which is why Kohler has been driving back and forth from Phoenix to SoCal this summer) and is one of the best cars he has driven. It is shocking why there is very little interest in this car, it confounds Chris and the rest of us.
It would be well worth your effort to fly in and drive out with it; you will not find a better car on the East Coast for this money. Chris is willing to negotiate, so contact him and see what's what.
