The ///M on the trunk of the M535i was standard for the car, but it could be deleted at the request of the party ordering the car. To see if your car came with one, and the ///M on the grille (was this on the M535i E28 like on the E12), you can check the build sheet for your car. It may still be located under the rear seat or is available at the dealer, just ask the parts guys to print one for you. They should be on-line with BMW AG to access this info. The delete code is SA 320, No exterior badges.
i/iA just means that the same sticker was used for both manual and automatic equipped cars.
If your car is a true M535i then tell you friend to f#$k off. If BMW put the badge on then it deserves to wear it.
If he doesnt like it, tell him to take it up with BMW AG. By the way, what does he drive?
here are some pictures i just took
a single I, i dunno what happened here, but no ///M badge... just the remains of what may have been 535i, and there is no m badge on the grill either
my friend has an '86 325e and an '81 323i
...thanks again
