Rich, do you have the break down on build numbers...
Tony,
Here's the info I have for the DC91 LHD models
As Ron already stated, there were 588 LHD "Euro" M5s built from 10/84 through 9/87.
Year Build Dates Serial Numbers
1985 10/84 to 09/85 1018001 to 1018195
1986 09/85 to 09/86 1018196 to 1018532
1987 09/86 to 09/87 1018533 to 1018586
1988 09/87 1018587 to 1018588
And for Ron, the total number of RHD CKD (DC98) M5s built for the South African market built from the knock down kits is 96.

Ron,
You are correct about the VINs. According to Mobile Traditions Historical recordsmy M5 was manufactured on February 1, 1985 and delivered on March 21, 1985 to the German BMW dealer Anton Neuberger OHG in Aschaffenburg.
DOT records indicate it arrived in May of '85 and was released for use on public roads in November of '85.
When you consider the time required to ship the car across the pond via ship, my M5 spent very little time in Germany after delivery to the German BMW dealership.
I haven't seen a documented Euro M5 in the US with a lower VIN than mine. On one of the ///M registry sites there is one listed with a January '85 prodcution date. However the owner, Bruce Bybee, doesn't list the VIN. Basically there's no way of telling if this other M5 exists.

P.S. I thought your VIN was 1018091 ??
