What color of Trunklid Liner and Toolbox does your M5 have ??

Mine has what looks like the standard setup used in the 535i. Since we all have Euro M5s from the same production year, I was interested in knowing what you guys have.

FWIW: My new to me Anthrazite M5 Trunklid Liner and Toolbox arrived yesterday. It's in pristine condition and it's going into my M5 regardless of whether it's the correct item. :D :D :D

Mine came to me with the reg. E28 light grey deal. I changed it right away with my Anthrazite set from my old car. I also added in the left side panel that holds the med kit, as my M5 came with just a finished carpet piece behind the jack.

anthracite

Light grey is the common set-up on pretty much all E28's other than M5.

Todd,

I don't have a problem with mods as long as they're tasteful and serve a useful function. I have RD Sport springs, ALPINA wheels, Koni SA Sports, a modified rear subframe and E34 540i/M5 rear brakes that will all be installed on my Euro M5. However I'm keeping the stock bits that I'm removing. I'll get the original Bilsteins rebuilt and box them up with the springs. If I ever sell the car and some true purist wants to make an issue of it, I'll still have the original suspension.

What I have a problem with is when people start cutting holes in interior panel for stereo upgrades and crap like that. You can never tell when a car might become valuable.

When I moved to Texas in '82, my second car was a '72 Nova SS with an LT-1 engine. Basically stock, just a few upgrades. The car was stolen from a parking lot and I had a hell of a time getting a $3k insurance settlement . What do you think I could get for that '72 Nova today ??? Maybe $15K, possibly more and Chevrolet built 10s of thousands of these cars. Not 588 hand built examples as is the case with the Euro E28 M5.

Go hang out on the E24 forums/lists sometime. Those guys are the nut jobs. They even pay big $$$s to Coker Tire for TRX metric tires.

Tony,

My M5 has the same trunk setup as yours. Ron's had the Anthrazite panel but also has the same carpet setup behind the jack. I'm going to stay with the stock setup behind the jack and look for the optional First Aid Kit Box. It's basically a molded plastic box that mounts to the trunk lip on the left side, right above the jack.

Rich, if the car was worth $3k then and $15k now, don't you think most of that appreciation is from inflation? Or, do you mean it's worth $15k in 1972 dollars?

Shifty,

Even if you account for the 50% devaluation of the Dollar in the mid '80s, I don't believe the increase in value can be atributted to simple inflation. I've owned the same house that I was in when the Nova was stolen, and it hasn't jumped up 5 times in value.

So guys if you have the build sheets for the cars, do they say that the anthracite trunk panels are an option or is it not listed on the sheets.
The trunk panel isn't listed on my build sheet and I don't believe it was ever listed as an option. IMO, the differences in the trunks was an evolutionary thing. I don't recall Ron or Tony's SN, but my M5 is #34, Tony's falls between mine and Ron's, all built in the same year. FWIW: All of our trunk panels are covered in the same high quality wool carpet, not the stuff that regular 5ers got.

I must be blind, Tony has his SN in his SIG, his is #54, 20 cars behind mine. IIRC, Ron's is somewhere in the 80 range.
