I think my oil cooler hoses are leaking where they join the hard lines. Are these availible new or is it better to have custom hoses made up? Is there a way to bypass the cooler so I can drive the car with the hoses out?

I know me and Al525i designed my lines using the original metal fittings pressed into brand new hydrolic hoses. It's a VERY VERY tight fit because the hoses don't have any give -- but they'll last forever!

You can also goto a aircraft shop, which has hydrolic repair shop, and they could cheaply replace your rubber lines with hi-pressure lines.

I have a hydraulic shop three blocks from me that makes that kind of thing quick and cheap. The local NAPA store also makes hi pressure lines. So I'd take them to a NAPA or other hydraulic shop and not get hosed at the dealer.

Where's the leak ?

I sometimes get a "whiff" of oil just after warmup.
Passengers (wife) give that "what's that smell look".

Might be related to the seals at the hood air/intake seals
where the hood meets the firewall.
If those seals aren't right, I seem to get engine smells.

The lines run down the driver's side, along the frame rail to the front. Also look under the black plastic cover in behind the kidneys. Under there is a loop for the power steering cooling, inspect the rubber jointer to see if it is leaking too.

Just finished a few minutes ago replacing the oil cooler lines and found the PS cooler lines leaking just as badly. Now to clean it all up....

I had mine bust in stop and go traffic and the ole idiot light come on then shortly afterwards the pump started to howl like mad. So as preventive maintaince when ever the P.S. filter get changed, I go ahead and replace them too.

You replace the hoses everytime you replace the PS filter ? Gosh, not planning on doing this job for another 10 years I hope

Devinder,

Shops that repair heavy equipment such as cranes and dozers have the equipment to make replacement lines; and since most of the Japanese and Korean stuff coming into the US is metric, they should have the correct fittings as well.

After one too many bad times with these lines, I notice that they sit out in the weather more then any other line so, I just like to be safe. It is only a couple of minutes, and the fluid is empty, so why not...
