I've been delving into the mysteries of the Motronics used on my new (to me) '88 Porsche 911. One of the things I've found out is that it uses low impedance injectors, with what may be a flow rate similar to those used on the M5.

I can look up the injector types easily enough, but have never actually seen or heard the version of Motronics used on the e28 or e34 M5's.

Anyone know?

USA E28 M5 uses Motronic 1.0.

That said, i get the impression motronic can be changed in various ways to be application tailored -i.e. Mot 1.0 could be low Z on one application and high Z on another, and only the injector drivers would be different. It'd still be a motronic 1.0 because of the sensors it can deal with and the general programming of the box.

Personally, i still cant understand why you're investing research into trying to productize an EFI system for E28s at a 500-1k price point. If i were you, i'd be working the megasquirt + spark angle looking to do a drop in E28 kit. What needs do you think MS+spark is not meeting of your target market, apart from being tricky to build and tune ?

I'm glad that TCD is working on such a setup; it's something i've felt they should have been doing since the get go (and said as much at the time). My opinions may change drastically once i deploy one, but IMO unless you're staying showroom stock, MS is the way to go for any older EFI car :)

Thanks for the info. I'm not working on any EFI setup for e28's. You must be thinking of someone else. :)

Pat,

On my home computer I have the circuit diagrams from the Motronic 1.0 used in the Porsche 944. I downloaded these before Frwilke's site disappeared from the web. I've done some preliminary comparisons between the prints and my Euro M5 ECU and the circuits all seem to match up, that is where I have circuits. My Euro M5 ECU doesn't have the O2 sensor inputs, the outputs for the evaporative purge, nor the ICV circuits. However the traces are there and this stuff even seems to match up.

I can send them to you if you'd like them.
