I've looked around, and everything I've been seeing points to the 3.07 LS diff having been married up to the close-ratio dogleg tranny in stock trim. My car has a 3.07ls and a getrag 265 overdrive tranny. Info I've found on the subject states that a 3.25LS came installed on cars with the getrag 265. My question is: was my tranny or diff swapped at some point in time, or did some of the cars come with 3.07LS AND getrag 265 from the factory?

It could have been swapped, I suppose. My M535 originally had a close ratio dogleg transmission and it came with the 3.07 rear. However, that transmission went out at some point, and the previous owner swapped in a 265 overdrive transmission since he was able to find one with low miles for a good price.
This combination does make for pretty relaxed highway cruising (and good mileage, too) but I don't suppose it does much for my 0-60 times.

Actually, My 1985 M535i has O/D 265 Getrag with the 3.07LS Diff. It sure makes a good cruiser on the Freeway @ 80MPH. Since it's my daily driver, that's perfect. I also had Euro 535i with a C/R and 3.25LS which was nasty off the line. First, second and Third will spin the wheels and get the car sideways (Awesome)

I'm familliar with that site. I have learned quite a bit from it, but some of the info conflicts with what I have read elsewhere, (like the 3.07 diff being married up to a dogleg tranny, for instance)
Doesn't really matter to me, I was just curious. I took the 3.07 out last week and put in a 3.46--much better for the type of driving I like to do.
I also have read posts here, (and on M535i.org) that the M-tech suspension was an option on the M535i. M-tech suspension is not a listed option on the build sheet for my car, yet the M-Registry site makes this statement:

Anyone know for sure who's right?
