I had a discussion with my mechanic today...of course, rebuilding is expensive as well as trying to install an S38b36+ engine.

One of the main differences between the b35 and b36+ engines is the MAF. The airflow is more restricted on the AFM equipped b35.

So...has anybody ever adopted a b36+ MAF/ECU on a b35 engine? If so was the b36 intake plenum used? Or can the b36 MAF/ECU be adopted to the b35 intake plenum?

There are plenty of S38B35 MAF conversions, but most dont use BMW factory parts, they use a signal conditioner to map the MAF signal to an AFM signal.

Split Second makes one. So does Modern Performance

Eric,

I think you might be able to use the b36 DME and MAF by utilizing the harmonic balancer from an '89 or later M30b35 with Motronic 1.3. You could probably ditch the dual resonance plenum and the airpump used on the b36 engine. "Jim @ da shop' could probably help here.

At home I have a link to a website with a BMW technical discussion of the dual resonance plenum and how it works.
