NO,

AFAIK BMW never imported any S38B35 engine with an Air Pump in the E28 M5 or the E24 M6. The later S38B36 used in the E34 M5 has an Air Pump which is only used to help emissions at idle.

If anything a Euro E28M5 owner should only need a functional Lambda Loop "Closed Loop O2 Sensor" , catalytic convertor, and some sort of Evaporative Purge System. Worst case would be to install the US/NA E28M5 ECU, ICV, O2 sensor stuff and Purge System.
