I just bought an M5 with an aftermarket intake on it. I want to return it to the stock airbox and need some reference info on the stock unit. Does anyone have a part number for the M5 air box and a picture or pictures of it? It the 535 box the same as the M5? I bought the repair manual from Schiff European and there is not a single picture of the air box in it.

Thanks,

Ron

The air filter housing/suction silencer on the M5 is entirely different than any other E28. Image
The picture comes from RealOEM.com http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=13&fg=20

Good luck finding the parts at a reasonable price. Call Brian at Chatanooga BMW if you want to buy new, he will treat you right.

Amen to that. I just had Brian do a price check for me...$400!! I've been trying on/off for a year now to find a used stock box. I like the sound of the motor with the K&N cone setup, but I would like to go back to stock also. I'll keep my eyes open. Last one I found a couple years ago was going for $175. I was hoping for something closer to $50. You have to pay to play I guess.

I found one for 175.00 (used) at www.bmrparts.com.
I have never used them before but they said the part was in great shape and is returnable. We will see.

You should use a credit card with those folks, just to be safe. (@) There have been horror stories in the past with their "Rebuilt" engines.
