I was quite proud of #2791030 when the odometer turned 300,000 miles.
A couple of days later I used the M5 to take my son snowboarding. Just as we crested the summit of Snoqualamie Pass, the M5 sort of stumbled ... then the transmission began to whine.
VERY LOUDLY!
Fourth gear made the least noise. All the other gears made a very loud whining. I suspect that one of the lay shaft bearings had "an incident".
We were not going to let a little mechanical hic-up ruin our father-son big snow day event, so we continued on another mile or so at slow speeds to the lodge. We got on our gear and headed up the hill.
I was pretty sure the tranny would not last the 60 miles home, so I started making cell phone calls on the chair lift rides trying to find a friend to come save our butts.
My wonderful wife was gracious enough to offer to come get us. She rented a trailer and came up with the family Suburban. My daughter even got the chance to make a snowman and toss a couple of snowballs.
Anyone want a Getrag 280 paperweight?
I still have a G265 that I bought from Rexmo. New clutch and assorted parts are on the way.
Anyone up for a weekend wrenchfest in West Seattle? I'm buying the beer and pizza!
Wish me luck,
Eddie
