more on this subject..........by molding in some discrete vents, would this dissipate heat considerably and would it be worth the effort. i read an article in turbo magazine about their project supra. they added a vented hood and new radiator. realised some much lower engine temps and said the car ran much better but unfortunately they did not have a chance to dyno it after. they also mentined that every 100 degree drop in temp was worth like 10 hp. anyone have any words.

Ya, vents will help the compartment temps, if properly placed. Where that is on a E28, I don't know.

100deg temp drop, where? Intake, eng compartment? turbo? Not sure what there talking about.

You'd want them in the low-pressure area of the hood, which is roughly the front third -- after that, you get positive pressure and would force more air under the car. Vents into the fenderwell would work well also, but would be problematic on a unibody car like ours.

My stuff used to get HOT before I installed my oil cooler - now the temps under the hood are like any other car.
I still want to head down to Al525i's place and do some hood fabrication with him, making me a scoop for the IC.

i left the article in my apt in boston but i am going up there tommororw, so i will read up and post some more specifics for you.

on a few recent trips in the summah my temps haev soared and its buggin me out
the plastic cap on the shock tower gets almost too hot to touch

i do not have the plastic undertray thingy on and im wondering if perhaps that prevents
hot air from escaping the bay somehow?

when i posted on bimmer.info they just said the m30 is known for its BTUs

hood vents would be awesome, but theyd have to be subtle...

Mine works well, except when it rains. Then it likes to let soo much water into the bay.
