So much for the track day I had planned on this week, the clutch pack blew on Saturday. While I'm sure the additional power/torque didn't do it any favors, as is with any '86 auto equipped car it's days were numbered. I had started thinking I was going to skate on any tranny issues given the abuse I've put the thing through as of late but it wasn't to be.
I wish I could say it went in a blaze of glory whilst blowing away a Saleen, F40 or some other esteemed vehicle but nope, I was pulling away from a stop sign going to the post office.
It's probably going to be off the road for a while so more than likely I'll pull the whole drivetrain and finish the low comp. motor that's going in this winter. Perhaps it was a sign from the boost gods telling me it was time for more
Well, I'm done for a while.

Yeah, now that I think about it there were issues. I passed them off to various reasons, namely the revaned converter changing all of the charactaristics of the tranny. In retrospect it had been telling me for a while. I don't really think it's due to the turbo. It may have accelerated the matter but it would have gone regardless.

Perhaps not Stuart!!
I conned the local shop into yanking the tranny yesterday. It'll be on my bench this afternoon and with any luck I can rebuild the clutch pack within the next week. I've also located a tranny out of an 89 635 that should not have the clutch pack issue so there is a backup plan. The tranny may be cheap so I may go that route regardless. There's still lots of good driving to be done before the snow flies and if everything goes right it could be back on the road in a couple of weeks!

Excellent news! You know you need the retrofit kit, correct? It's two tiny washers and a drill bit. BTW, your .8 bar spring is shipping today.
