Y'all,

I'm going to be disassembling the fugly-outside/purty-inside M30B35 I acquired this past winter, mainly because the process of cleaning the rust and grunge off the thing in preparation for painting & powdercoating is getting frustrating -- it'll be easier to just pull it apart, have the parts tanked, then reassemble.

Since I'm going to have it apart anyhow, and intend to go the TCD route someday, I figured I'd see if it's possible to install piston squirters in an M30B35. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the time, expense, and hassle for whatever gains it affords?

FWIW, this is an early M30B35 out of an E24. It looks mostly like an M30B34 externally, so I don't know if the internal casting is like a B34 or B35, if that'd make a difference.

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn, you should be able to see the track of the main oil gally running longitudinally down the inside of the block. Squirters can be tapped into this gally. I believe the 745 engines had the squirters tapped off the main bearing journals. I'd prefer to NOT blead pressure directly from the main bearings.
I'll soon be dropping my B35 block off at www.Golenengineservice.com to have it bored, honed and decked and will ask about adding squirters as well.

Thanks, John. I'll be looking forward to hearing what you figure out on this.

Shawn -

Duke had to have the oil squirters added to his project motor. I don't believe the block casting changed between the b34 and b35, so I would think oil squirters could be added to yours in exactly the same manner.

The casting is somewhat different, both externally and internally.

The block Duke used was a BMW development M106 that hadn't had the squirters installed originally. I'd bet this was different from both the B34 and B35.

Yes, I did have to have the oil jets installed in the test M106 I used.

An interesting note is, when I disassembeled the M30B34 HC engine that was in the car, it HAD oil jets installed.....?????? So, I can't say for sure but the M30B34 Euro, dirty, 10:1 block may have the oil jets also.

Duke,
remember your block was a later 90-92?? replacement block, the latter ( don't know when it started) had these squirters
Yes, SHawn your motor can have these installed if it does not have them...

How 'bout the b34? I looked for the oil galley on my block and am not seeing it. Am I blind or is it not as prominant as on the b35?
