no muffler?

with the turbo on the M30 is it possible to run no muffler?

basically looking at TCD's turbo back exhaust here...

if not what about just a resonator and no muffler?

Sure you can. You can also turn the downpipe horizontally and dump the exhaust out the right side fender. That and "invasion stripes" would look kickass like a P-51 ... but who knows how loud it would be.

i know that a turbo uses a lot of the exhaust gas engergy so quiets down
the exhaust noises....in some cars (jap) a lot...i'm wondering how it effects
the M30?

I don't know of anyone who's tried it but I'd bet it's pretty loud.

The video of my car was with 3" Stainless exhaust with a 3" magnaflow cat but no muffler. Its very loud and I expect to get a ticket or warning when I get to drive it again.

his exhaust is VERY loud - it hurts your ears to drive it long distance. I don't suggest it.

The first one is of it idling. It really is loud and I plan to buy a magnaflow 6" can before I get it on the road again. It might not be for a while with the eye injury. I was just a few days away from getting it tagged and 100% on the road and now nothing.....back to square 1 trying to get my eyesight back and to even get back to ATL to see the car. I still got a gigiantic list of mods to do to it and right now its just collecting dust in my garage. It might be a full year before I can get this thing on the road....Feb 05 (purchased in Raleigh) October 05 (still sitting in my garage although finished, still useless).

true, but i dont want to tahve to put on a helmet or earplugs to go get groceries. plus, there is a cop every 10ft in atlanta, no joke, there are soooo many. they jsut want to hand out tickets for everything, tint, speeding 4mph over, loud cars, cars that just look like they are doing something wrong. A muffler is in order, maybe AFTER I get my first ticket or warning for being to loud.

i saw this part once while i was watching horsepower tv that made it to where you could switch pipes... if i can locate it and get my hands on one i'm going to have 2 pipes come off of it... one with a cat and muffler and one just straight piped.... that way i won't have to deal with the constant noise... only when i want it!

it was something that was put on a muscle car or truck... but i believe it was on 3" pipes... so i've been working really hard to locate this part... the only thing is i don't know what to search for...

I saw that too. They do it on older muscle cars and its cable activated. You jsut pull on a cable in the cabin and it is instantly a 3" exhaust that dumps out right behind the driver wheel well. Sounds MEAN too.

i used to go to emory all the time for ultimate frizbee tourneys. one of the only colleges taht recycles. i find that interesting.

Anyway, ATL is a city in its own. IN the city people do what they want like every other big city. Outside the city, people try to get away with lots more, but there are still 400 cops per sq. ft there. I think there are almost as many cops as civilians. And ALL of them get a freaking cop car. What a waste of funds.

Cops in and around ATL suck big time. Most of them are crooked as hell so the best policy is to assume they are until proven otherwise.

Yup. I see it way too much and it always pisses the hell out of me. Defensive driving is a must!

There are certain parts of ATL and its' suburbs that are worse than others when it comes to certain thing. Take Cobb county for instance. People say Cobb stands for Count On Being Busted and in my experience it is true. I am sure Yellow, Greg, Shawn and others all have stories or have heard stories about Cobb county cops. Hell I was drinking with a Tuscaloosa cop last semester and when I told him I was from Marietta he said "wow sorry to hear that man. Cobb county cops are pretty hardcore." You know it's bad when cops in different states know about your county.

On a lighter note though ATL is a fun place to be and other than the cops Marietta is a great place to live. I haven't gotten a ticket in like 4 years so it is possible to get by. You just have t be careful and lucky.

If you pick up a copy of one of the rodder magazines, like Hot Rod or Street Rodder, they usually have ads for several different brands of exhaust cutouts, both manually and electrically operated.

For a few months back in 1970, the Pontiac GTO was available from the factory with what they called VOE, or vacuum operated exhaust. It used a special muffler that had a vacuum controlled internal bypass. You'd pull a knob under the dash, and the thing would go from quiet to straight pipes. Unfortunately, once the Feds got wind of it, that option was cancelled. Anyway, the reason I bring it up is that one of the Pontiac restoration parts suppliers is in the process of reproducing that muffler. I've seen pictures of it and heard audio files of how it sounds with the bypass open and it's pretty cool. I could imagine using it on other cars besides '70 GT0s.

Goergia Tech recycles. They put a trash can and recycling bin in every dorm room and there are special cans around campus.

I'll have to go pick up one of those magazines then... cuz i definately want to run some sort of system like that... and that muffler also sounds like an awesome idea... would save room as opposed to running multiple pipes...
