Does anyone have information on the conversion to get the 745i engine in my E28? I talked with Ray Avena a while back and he stated that I can use my original Air Flow Meter and not have to use the electronics from the 745i.

I have a 1986 535i and a 1984 745i and will be starting the swap today. I have been pretty busy until now, and will be attempting to swap the motor and all turbo related parts over to the E28. I beleive he told me that a 533 engine mount needs to be used on one side, and other than working around the brake lines and maybe relocating the battery and making some piping for the IC, it looks like there isn't a whole lot else to do. If anyone has input related to this swap, I would appreciate it. If I had the money, I would probably do a TCD setup. But since I have a fresh 745i in the driveway, I feel that it would be a total waste to not attempt this swap first.

I'll also try to get pictures along the way. Thanks for the help,

Hello Robert,

As I had said in a previous email you may use the e28 engine harness, ECU, and AFM on the 745i engine. This is basically the way I have it running now at 10PSI. The only other change I made is to add six high impedence 30 pound injectors.

I relocated my ABS. Others here have said they have installed the engine without relocating the ABS.

You have to tilt the engine ALOT - I don't suggest doing it. I'm sure Ray gave you alllll the info you needed too.

So pretty much direct drop in? What about the tranny? Will it hold up?

My 265/5 has been doing just swimmingly - no change in the feel of the transmission since the turbo. I believe TCD ran upwards of 20psi on his 5speed as well without any problems..
But you will have to upgrade the clutch and pressureplate - another topic to discuss w/ TCD.
