Made a trip to visit a friend and ride in his recently finished e28 turbo! Car ran as expected at a lowly 10psi.
Cannot wait for it to see 17/18psi!
I also got a ride in a newer 2000ish Maxima with a stock 200hp motor, 9psi SC, non intercooled and a 60 shot of nitrous. Car is an automatic with a built tranny and 2500 stall converter. Without nitrous it felt OK but not spectacular. With the nitrous it was amazing. Really fast. Huge torque. Instant power! All this from a simple dry 60 shot.
My car will have a wet 100 shot at 5erFest! Watch out!

I think I know the car. The owner likely installed it because he didn't like having his butt handed to him by the person you visited.
I can't wait to see your car with a 100 shot. The test n' tune will be interesting. Watching your car run in the 13s was impressive enough, I can't imagine what your car with the re-stalled auto and a 100 shot would be like. ~0 You do realize you have to put it back together and get it running first though, right? hehehe

Get a bigger turbo - bump the boost!

My turbo has a GT35R wheel. It's good for 680bhp.

That my idea Todd!!!
The only reason you are beating me too it is that I am in Iraq. Thats cool, get all the bugs worked out so I can just bolt it on once I am back
I'm thinking a 60 shot will be fine to get her on boost.

I spoke to a tech at Holley today. He suggested a single nozzle wet system for the power levels I want. $600 for the basic setup and then another $500 for safety equipment.

those power #s must have been acheived with air to liquid intercooler? is this the same car you have on your TDC web site?
what was your exhaust temp during the end of each run how high did it climb? 20psi is a lot of boost.

Yes, with our prototype water/air intercooler. Car now has a more efficient production version. Exhaust temps not measured. Motor was pulled from a 1986 535i in a junkyard and installed as is.
It's the car on our website.

how can you tune a car without measuring the exhaust temp?

Wideband O2 sensor. Car now has an EGT. Temps are ~1200F at 20psi and WOT.

so how long did you hold it at WOT, at 20 psi, to get 1200F. is this a temp reading after a run through one gear? or would this temp situation happen after you were driving the car and did a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear run? I dont belive that your egt is only at 1200F after accelerating from 0-100mph.

Why can you not believe it? I recently did a 0-100 and it was ~1200-1250. Probe is located 15cm behind the turbo.

Miller,
Your motor looks nicely done. Are there any baffles in your intercooler tanks? What turbo are you using? How about some details about it's performance? Boost level? Dyno numbers? 1/4 mile times?

Todd, Its hard to belive that your charge is that cool at 20 psi, Im not trying to knock you or discredit you, I belive you know what you are doing Ive done my research and the things you have said on the 745i board when you were arguing about the fact that a totaly closed wastegate spools a turbo faster than a oscalating 745i style waste gate. so I know you know your stuff very well. Im just havin a hard time with the fact that your able to keep your egt that low at that boost level.
My car is running the stock turbo, all due to the fact that Ive been designing my kits around a stock 745i set up. once all my products are finished then I would like to install a new style turbo, I think at higher boost levels the k27 starts geting out of its efficiency range on its compressor map. Im pretty shure thats why the power drops out sooner on a 745, than say one of your cars. It make the pressure but doesnt flow enuf volume of air to the engine, new turbos are so much better. I did some dyno tuning and the most power I could get out of the M106 @ 15psi was 270 Whp and 330 Wtq.

Miller,
I am using a GT35R compressor wheel, P Trim Turbine , .69 exh housing and a 3" mandrel bent downpipe and exhaust. Our exhaust systems offer very little back pressure. The GT35R compressor wheel is at it's peak (78 percent) efficiency at that boost level and power level.
We are using a large 4.5x4.6x12 intercooler core that is rated to 525hp at less than .25psi pressure drop. I consider our systems to be optimized for these HP/Boost levels. I think the EGT are a reflection of that.

I appreciate your honesty. Most 745i Owners still believe that their stock setups at 15psi make 400hp. The Jarmo legend is very strong!

Are you getting the core from turbonetics? spearco? what are you useing for a heat exchanger? What head gasket are you using?

We work with Corky Bell for the intercoolers. Oil coolers for heat exchangers. Stock headgasket to date. Multi Layer Steel headgaskets in the very near future.

sounds cool, you know with the stock k27, you will accually loose power after 16 psi, Some people may think not but I know the truth, I have the proof, Ive done enough research to know that. to run 18-20 psi on the k27 will not work, you have to retard the timing more because of the higher temps and things that goes along with more boost, but because its not making more flow but accually just making more pressure, its accually creating more heat as well. so what ive found is that if you run over 16 on a k27 you get: hotter charging air coming from the compresser, you would natually retard the timming which will also bring the temp up, less power, more strain on the engine, and eventually a blown motor due to a melted piston or somthing! sounds good eh? Not really. so If a guy has a 745i and wants more power than 330 wtq and 270 whp he will have to get a bigger better turbo and a good air to liquid intercooler. Cant wait to get a new turbo!

Todd,
Can you post more info on the EGT sensor and display you installed. I assume you are useing the bung right after the turbo. I have it pluged with a NB O2 sensor.
