Pistons come in any comp ratio you want. This order had 8.0 and 8.5 using the m30b35 cyl head.

FWIW: The stock M88/3 pistons per the ETK weigh 660 grams, or 28.31 oz, which is 1.46 lbs. My JE pistons weigh 350 grams, or 12.36 oz, which equals .77lbs. Multiplying by 6 results in a total weight of 8.76 lbs stock vs 4.62 lbs with the JE for a reduction of 4.14 lbs. Basically a 47 % reduction in internal reciprocating weight. If you think of this in terms of what a lightweight flywheel does for initial acceleration, it's almost comparable to switching from the stock 535i flywheel to the light 533i / M5 flywheel.

Todd,
What is the price of the JE Pistons (6 for the M30 B35)?
Whats the price of your MLS?
Thanks

I'd like to see you perform that feat!
You'd have more success using a piston ring compressor!

todd, are you planning on doing rods also, or are the stock rods good enough for those power figures?

Stock rods are forged. I don't expect to upgrade mine.

stock rods have been proven to hold 710 crank hp @ 6500 RPM on an m30 in sweden.
question..........what makes these pistons good for 720 while some are rated at over 1000, etc? is it the forging process and does that cost more for the more work that might have to be done in order to make a stronger piston?

The wrist pin is the limitation not the piston.

Sure, upgrade the wrist pins.

wait i thought these turbos came with upgraded rings and wrist pins?
EDIT: PISTONS NOT TURBOS! should probably proof read a little more before i post a question!

Hu,
The wrist pin is the connector between the piston and rod. Why would it come with a turbo?

A piston that will tolerate higher loadsthan the ones we ordered will have more material left, thicker walls, etc. Couple that with stronger wrist pins, yada, yada, blah, blah.... This all equates to high load tolerance and, of course, more weight.

Right,
I guess to bemore clear, those componets go with a engine, not a tubo. Unless you ordered them from TCD as a separate item and are re-building the engine to use them, you dont need them. I guess I can finish Andrews question with when you ordered the turbo kit, you weren't rebuilding the engine at the time, so theres no reason to have rings and pins.

Everybody should sleep with their pistons the first night. It helps them feel more comfortable and later on when your boosting over 20 psi they take it easier and will last longer when you drive it like you stole it. Im definetly gonna be sleeping with my pistons for the first week and im definetly gonna be driving it like I stole it everytime I put my foot on that pedal!

i wish i coulda slept with my pistons, but they went directly to the shop and now the block is at quicksilver race machining in frederick, md getting bored out and honed and assembling the bottom end. we are only a few weeks away now!!!!

I got the head back yesterday, the crank and block will be here on Wed. From there it's anybody's guess as to when it gets put back together.
I kept a piston on my nightstand. Does that constitute sleeping with one?
