EDIS-6 on a 85' m30 swap. Which wheel 36-1 or 60-2?

Post by terrybpp »

I am picking up a 85' 3.5 m30 and 265 get this weekend to swap into my e30 318i and I'm trying to order all my Mega Squirt crap. I'm using MS-1 3.0 for moth fuel and spark control.

I plan on using a ford EDIS setup but in my research I can't find a straight answer. Since my engine is a 85' it does not come with a toothed wheel from the factory, like the newer versions. The MS forum says to use a 36-1 wheel for 6 cyl application but I have read that the m30 require a 60-2. I don't get it. Also does MS 3.0 support a 60-2? I have heard yes and no but seen no installs.

If anyone has a link to a install that would be great or just some first hand advice.

Thanks

MSnS+E w/3.0 will work with either 30-1 or 60-2. I believe you can run Ford EDIS, just get all the info for it at MS site.

The M30 doesn't require 60-2, its only because thats what BMW used on the M30b35 and other 3 series stuff. So the swap is easy.

Go check over at First Fives, Peter Flourance is doing it already. There will be more here. Search this forum for lots of talk on MS.

The Ford EDIS requires a 36-1 wheel to work, it is basically a self contained wasted spark ignition system, and in theory it will function by itself, however you would have fixed ignition timing. The ignition timing is determined by the signal the MS box sends to it.

Right, you will need the 36-1 to run EDIS. If you don't use EDIS, MS will run a 60-2 (not MSII, yet). I started my MSII mit EDIS 6 install today, I'll update you guys later this week.

Thanks. Doesn't seem like a hard pr expensive setup. I will be alot easier to have a full standalone since I'm replacing a m10. I'll keep you posted on my turbo build up.
