Can anybody tell me what the first steps are to tuning a european m535i.I've added a twin cone air filter but my e30 325 is nearly as fast, I've spoken to Fritz Bits and they told me that if I change the cast manifold and exhaust system I could gain up to thirty horsepower.

no way to get 30 hp just by opening the exhaust. Maybe 5-10.
First thing to do is make sure you have the high compression motor. VIN will tell you, no cat and not cat ready.
Then make sure that high performance dual air sucker is sucking cold air from the front of the car and not hot air from the exhaust manifold aera.
Let us know, we'll go from there.

Thanks for your help, the filter is sat in the original filter base plate so it;s protected from some of the heat from the manifold. I'll check the VIN too. Thanks again.

What differential are you running in your M535i? and then in your 325??
That could explain alot for the comparisons....
Fritz's has 6 branch manifolds which can help too...
After those options, you need to go inside to help...cam, later model B35 head etc....
Go to TurbochargingDynamics.com and compare your cold intake to his...you will see his runs the filter way down to the end and gets it right behind the headlights to collect the cold air, maybe you could modify the one you have...
I would say that you already have the HC motor being in the UK....
HTH..
going back to work now....

As far as I know they are both running standard diffs, the e28 has a limited slip one. I' ll try that web site. Thanks for your help.

You should take a look at Duke's website, at
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/269576. Before he went turbo he did a lot of normally aspirated upgrades to his M535i.
