Just wondering what you guys would recomend for tuning a euro m535i to get about 350-400bhp, fancy a turbo but struggling to find a kit in the uk, dont fancy a super charger that much and havn't got a clue where to start or if its possible if i stay n/a? I've got £5000 to spend on the engine so any advice would be much appreciated.

A turbo is your best bet, but I'm guessing the TCD kit may not fit straight on to a UK car since the steering is on the other side of the engine.

Hi Rosie, What will you do with 400bhp? What would that do to your gas mileage? 5000 pounds could buy a house load of new furniture or a great vacation to Thailand. But that's just me.

Bye,
Emma

Funny you should say that, already got a flight booked for 26th of jan, going for 4 months again (cant miss songcran in chang mai). Saved up alot this year so i can kind of afford both without even selling a kidney!
I think import duties and shipping will put the tcd it out of my price range before i even thing about fitting, even if it would fit on rhd?
Any ideas on n/a and what sort of power i'd be looking at?

Rosie, Chiang Mai is my favorite place in the entire world. It’s a spiritual paradise with metropolitan style… Enjoy yourself in Thailand and with your TCB Kit plans…

what is you status with a TCD setup on a UK M535i engine, i going that approach but got myself a E34 535i engine to swap in due to lower compression ratio etc, after a nice rebuild, was the turbo in the way on the steering gear box

The ones I've seen on that side of the pond all have the turbo at the front and on top of the manifold.

We are modifying both the m20 and m30 manifolds to work with RHD. Prolly 120 days away.

is that on the TCD stage 2 system that you are going to modfiy to a suite the RHD drive models of the E28 ;) be sweet if you are.

120 days away is about my time frame for this projects just slowly fixing the car up, remving rust and respray entire body etc, and rebuilding an E34 M30B35 engine to suite the turbo. I be first on the list if you do release the RHD option.

It's not possible for us to produce a complete kit since we do not have access to a RHD car. It'll be as complete as possible. Piping will be up to the user.

Because the steering box is in the way - best go for a Squires Turbo System.

Look them up on google.

Just checked out the web site

http://ststurbo.com

anyone got any experience of squires or remote mounting turbos? Seems a bit strange to me that no car manufactures use them and i've never seen them in motorsport either?

How about this?
http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-M5-E39-5er-V8-40 ... dZViewItem

400hp @ 6600rpm, 502nm @ 3800rpm and 158kg (as opposed to the m30's 143kg) - from http://www.vrchlabi.cz/e30/ruzne/enginenumber/

Admitedly a lot more expensive than turboing the m30, but think of the fun to be had.

The reason is, it's not a very efficient way to run a turbo. Yes, it will "work" but the turbine is less efficient and there are greater pumping losses due to the distance the charge air has to be pushed.

think i'll pass on the sts route then, the v8 conversion's very tempting but i lack skills in the spanner department and im sure there would be clearence problems especially using the steering box. would be nice though

By winter we will have RHD manifolds ready if you choose to go that route.

i'll definitely keep it in mind. i've been speaking to a local exhaust place and they've said the piping wouldn't be a problem. If my christmas bonus is big enough i'll order one in the new year. Import duties will be a killer though

Who wants new furniture when you got $5000 to spend on an e28? Unless your talking about furniture as in redoing the interior of an e28. Speaking of Tailand I went to the bar last night and met these two girls from there. Pretty interesting conversations because I couldn't understand anything they said. So basically I resorted to replying with "Yes" and laughing every so often. But they say 90% of communication is non-verbal and when she brought out the cell phone I knew what that meant.

Thinking about it, it'll probably work out cheaper if i source most of the bits from the uk as import duties will push the price up alot.
The only thing i cant source over this side of the pond is a w/a intercooler so i might have to go a/a or hope the tcd system can be modified to fit? Dont wanna start another debate on which is better cos thats been done to death on this site but i would appreciate a little info on what sort of size a/a i'll have to go for to get the power i want to achieve.
