I mentioned that I live in Missouri, but wife is from Minneapolis area. I think we will be driving up in my e28 Thanksgiving week. Anyone want to get our cars together and have a cup of coffee or a beer? It is a ways away, just thought I would plant the seed.

Sure, keep us posted on when you'll be in town. Depending on how the weather goes I may have my e28 put away for the winter by then, but if that's the case I'll be driving my 325iX.

Cool guys. It will be fun to actually visit with some other e28 and just plain BMW enthusiasts. Springfield has squat...tired of this town.

I will let you know my plans/dates as it gets closer.

I'll do my best. :) Stuart - I'll be likely missing the drive this weekend (I have the front of my house torn off at the moment to replace a rotten rim joist).

Hey, you know how to have fun. :)

I spent the last half of August and first half of September tearing my basement apart and having a new furnace and central a/c installed. Plaster removal, asbestos abatement, removing all the ductwork, re-doing all the wiring, and on and on. :x

Sometimes the idea of chucking it all and buying a nice new condo somewhere sounds pretty appealing.

Yeah, so you could spend the time doing more or less the same things on cars.... :)

oh wait - you'd have to buy a real garage somewhere too.

Hey guys...

Looks like we will be in the Minneapolis area from Sunday Nov 19th till the 26th. Of course we will be busy on Thanksgiving. Think of a time and place to get together, if you want. I am still, hesitantly, planning on driving the e28. I am nervous about my wheel/tire situation. Anything else I should prepare for?

FYI, we are staying in Anoka/Andover, NW of the cities.

PM for my cell if you want.

Later,

Wow - for once, I might be sort of centrally located. :)

I should have my new driveshaft in by then, and I might even have gotten over to Stuart's to pick up the differential that peed all over him last month. :)

Let us know.

Geez, I almost forgot about the deficating differential.

For those who hadn't heard this one, Stuart pulled the diff. from a shelf in my shop, only to find out there was no speedo sensor in it. Crap went all over Stuart and the floor and boy did it stink. Thankfully someone saw it before it got into his trunk and really created a mess. I still feel bad about it Stuart :(

Count me in...hopefully weather will allow me to still be driving my 5er?

Stuart, you bust out the 325ix already?

I could stand to get out of the sticks and get down there myself.....road conditions permitting :)

I should be around all Thanksgiving weekend - hopefully the weather will still be good (it's around 60 degrees today!) but you never know this time of year. Whether it's global warming or whatever, the last five or six years the snow has held off until well after turkey day.

By the way, the monthly BMW get together over at Lake Calhoun is tonight - hope to see some of you guys there.

Matt - I'm still driving the M535i for a little while. I need to get a new timing belt in the iX before it's put back in use.

Bill - it's funny...the grease stain washed out of my jeans just fine, but the aroma didn't. That pair of pants has been on a hangar airing out since then. I just checked them and the smell is almost gone...another couple weeks and they should be ready to wear. :D

Looking forward to meeting you all as I've just relocated here after a twenty year hiatus. I've spent the last twelve months thrashing the various beasts around half of the lower contiguous. Many questions and few resources as I'm pretty much of a noob to the marque. I'm shopping for garage/work space now as I'd like keep the rust-free just that way! Also, need some advice on a broken valve spring on the e23, 735i euro (hennarot) Give me a holler @ 757.839.1778, thanks, Richard

Richard, welcome to Minnesota! There's a local group of BMW guys who get together once a month or so to hang out. We post on http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/minneapolis/
There's also a website at http://www.technobmw.com/ but it's still under construction.

greetings, can anyone steer me to a savvy engine builder who's not whose middle name isn't Larceny? Thanks, Richard 757.839.1778, rollnrok@earthlink.net aka redunzo, Thanks and much obliged.

If I had it to do again I'd use a machine shop in St Louis Park - can't remember the name, JD maybe? They're just south of the Sam's Club at Louisiana and Hwy 7.

What are you rebuilding? I can recommend at least one guy to NOT have do it... :)

e23 735ieuro, broken intake spring on #5, may as well freshen up the whole unit once it's off. Although, throwing parts at these motors probably feels a lot like torching fistfuls of C-notes!

I think Bill in MN (Bill Ruttger) may have a spare rebuilt head...you can find his name by clicking on the member list button at the top of the page and then send him a private message.

So let's get our act together! Where you guys wanna meet? I know you like your coffee...there's a conveniently located Starbucks close to the intersection of Central & 125th in Blaine off Ulysses:

Starbucks Coffee
12555 Ulysses St NE, Blaine, MN
(763) 862-9910

Or another in Coon Rapids just off Hwy 10 & Main?

Starbucks Coffee
3450 124th Ave NW # 108, Coon Rapids, MN
(763) 422-8801

Both are not far from Andover...any other suggestions?

I am fine with Starbucks. My wife knows the area, so pick the location and we will be there. What day and time works for you guys?

btw, how's the weather up there? other than really cold from what I hear.

The ten day forecast says 40 degrees and cloudy on Thanksgiving, although who knows how accurate that is. There isn't any snow forecasted between then and now so I'll still be driving my M535 for a little while longer.

I'll probably be up in Blaine on turkey day for dinner at my brother's house, so sometime that afternoon would be handy for me, but I'll be around the rest of the weekend as well. It's only a 20 minute drive for me to any of those coffee shops so I can make it most any time.

Once we pick a time I'll post it on the Minneapolis Bimmerboard, and we may get a few of the non-e28 guys to show up as well.

After talking to the wife...she thinks maybe sometime on Saturday, after Thanksgiving would work best. T-day we will be at the house with family and black Friday would be crazy to try anything, not to mention I have no idea what is going on. So I would say narrow it down to maybe during the week on Monday or Wednesday or on the weekend on Saturday. Any thoughts guys?

I think I've got a neice's b-day party that is not even remotely optional on Saturday, but I'm not certain when. I'll check it out.

Maybe I'll be able to drive the Vixen. :)

I agree, I'll be way south in Cannon Falls on T-day so to get away and make it up there wouldn't work for me either. I'm OK w/either Wednesday or Saturday or even Friday afternoon? What do you guys think? If on Saturday, I'd probably just cont. North to the garage I store mine at and tuck it in for the winter.
