S38b36 rods compared to E34 M30 rods?

Hey, I have an M30 that I'm rebuilding for boost, having Pat Philpot (Big Red) rebuild it for me using his piston design/specs, but I also have a set of S38b36 rods available to me.

I was wondering if they were compatible (seems to me the b36 version is making up the extra displacement with more bore, but I'm not positive) and if the S38 rods would be an upgrade for me.

Also, does anyone know what stock M30 rods will handle for hp or tq?

If you use the S38B36 rods you will not be destroking the engine, the S38B36 used the same stroke as the M30, the added dsiplacement over the M30b35 was accomplished with increased bore size as you thought. However you will need either S38B36 pistons or custom made pistons. As to whether the S38B36 rods would be a performance inhancement, not much, they're lighter in weight, that's about it.

Ok, thanks. I'm only looking for stronger, since this is a boosted and relatively low-rev application and small amounts of rotating mass won't matter much.

Sounds like I'm better off sticking to the M30 rods for now and looking into aftermarket options if they can't hold the power. :D

Pauter always has an ad in the back of the Roundel for their aftermarket rods. I don't have any personal experience with them but they sound like a good product. http://www.pauter.com/

You might want to bump this question over to the forced induction board, but I don't think anyone has had a problem with M30 rods in a boosted engine.
